Green Flag award for Little Lancing!

Little Lancing has been working towards its Eco Schools Green Flag award and this year we introduced our Sustainability Action Plan. This resulted in the creation of our Little Lancing Green Promises, which idLittle Lancing is awarded its very first Green Flag award from Eco Schoolsentifies the actions we could take to make our nursery more sustainable and in doing so teach our Little Lancing children about the natural environment and caring for our planet.

Parents will have seen our recycling boxes in the nursery foyer for spent domestic batteries and for old ballpoint pens and are welcome to add their own items for recycling. We are actively seeking to reduce ‘one use’ plastic in the nursery, for example by providing parents with reusable wet bags for damp or muddy clothing, recycling and reusing resources wherever we can, reducing food waste and supporting food banks in our local community, encouraging wildlife and plants to thrive in our nursery gardens and forest school and last but by no means least, saving energy across the nursery by turning off appliances and lights when they are not being used.

This has all been assessed by Eco Schools, who have awarded us our first Green Flag Award in recognition of the hard work done by the Little Lancing Sustainability Team. We were delighted to hear that part of the award is for the first tree for Little Lancing to be planted by the Just One Tree initiative, which we are very much hoping to add to with the donations from our Just One Tree fundraising days this week!
