About the OL Club

Lancing College was founded by Nathaniel Woodard in 1848 and was the first of the Woodard Schools to be established in the UK. The Old Lancing Club was founded in 1878 for the benefit of former Lancing College pupils known as OLs. Today, on leaving the College, every Lancing pupil automatically becomes a member of the OL Club, which has over 8,000 members including more than 1,300 living outside the UK. Girls started to enter the school in 1978, so there are now more than 1,500 women OLs.

The Club communicates with its membership in its own section (titled The Club Review), within the College magazine, The Quad, which is published three times per academic year. More immediate news is conveyed each term through e-newsletters, on the Club pages of the College website, and via the College's social media profiles (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and X). This is where you will find details of events hosted by The Club, which are free of charge to members and include (but are not limited to!): the AGM and Summer Reception, the Young OLs Annual Reunion, and the Carol Service and Christmas Party each December. Other events are held jointly with the College include the Over 60s Lunch and overseas reunions. There are also many events, celebrations and gatherings held by the College, to which OLs are warmly invited. Please do come along to as many of these as you can – they are an excellent way of catching up with old friends, networking and remaining part of the Lancing community!

Leavers are also encouraged to continue with their sports after Lancing by joining one of the many OL Sports teams (including football, netball, hockey, cricket, Eton Fives and golf), supported financially by The Club. These teams participate in a variety of leagues and Old Boys’ and Old Girls’ competitions including the Arthur Dunn Cup (Football), the Cricketer Cup, the Londonderry Cup (Squash) and the Halford Hewitt (Golf).

The Old Lancing Club is run by a committee of OLs with Nigel Wheeler (Olds House, 1963 -1968) as our President and Nigel Bennett (Olds House, 1972 -1977) as our Chairman. Officer roles come up for re-election each year and Committee members every three years. Please consider becoming actively involved in the Committee. We hope to see you soon at one of our events!
