Adventurers & Voyagers
Adventurers and Voyagers are two new rooms opened in September 2026 in the flint cottage adjacent to the main nursery building. These rooms run in parallel for the older children in their final year with us before joining reception classes in their local primary or pre-prep school. We welcome some new children to this room along with those children from our Discoverers or Investigators rooms. Transitions to Adventurers or Voyagers take place in September of each year, so that those leaving for school the following summer spend the whole year together as a cohort.
Children have free access to a wide range of activities, offering them learning experiences in all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage. During play the children socialise with each other and with the nursery staff practitioners and have the opportunities to work on developing a variety of skills. The rooms have activity zones for learning, listening to stories and creative play. There are lots of books for them and role-play toys and games. There are separate areas where the children take part in small groups in activities linked to our Enrichment Programme and school readiness preparation.
Self-registration supports the children as they begin to recognise the letters of their name. Each day when the children arrive they will be encouraged to find and place their name on the self-registration board. Letters and Sounds is a teaching programme delivered through a variety of fun activities. The programme activities are designed to lay the foundations for the children to make a good start in reading and writing.
The children have access to water play outdoors and spend time in their own dedicated outdoor space as well as in our spacious nursery garden where they can play with the mud kitchens, the sand pit or try out their green fingers in the gardening club, where they grow flowers and vegetables in a designated plot. There is a tarmac area where they can pedal tricycles next to our fruit trees at the edge of the grassed area. Rising Reception experience weekly Forest School sessions in our Forest School learning space and also further venture afield on the Lancing College estate.
We work with the children’s destination schools to ensure the best possible start for them as they begin their time in full-time primary education.
