End of Summer Term 2019 Round Up

It has been a fantastic term for Lancing College Swimming Club. At the inaugural ESSA (English Schools Swimming Association) gala Archie N, James R, Grace S and George C won eight gold, seven silver and eight bronze overall.
At the South East Regional Championships George C, the Boys' U14 800m record holder and currently ranked 5th in the country for 200 back stroke, won silver, two bronze and four other top 6 places. George has also qualified for the British Championships and English Summer Nationals in eight events. He will also take on the Swim England Open Water Nationals at the beginning of August.

Third former James R also qualified for many events at Regionals but was unable to compete due to injury. After being out of action for six weeks, James made a remarkable comeback to break the U14 County 200m Individual medley record and his high ranking in this event has also qualified him to swim in the English Summer Nationals with George. Archie showed a great return to form following illness and improved his swim times in all six events at the ESSA gala.
Grace S impressed at the recent Regional Championships where she improved her 200 fly time by a big margin. Grace shows great dedication and does well at the harder events, and she recently won the female top Junior trophy in the Brighton Pier to Pier race with over 100 entrants.
George and Grace will take part in the Regional open water competition in the summer, and Grace is hoping to qualify and join George to Swim England Nationals for open water later on in August.
Lancing swimmers managed 2nd and 3rd overall in the senior girls' and boys' teams for the Sussex Cup, with Damian T winning both his individual races in magnificent style. Great team spirit was also shown by Charlie B, Ben B, Malachy S and Oliver P, with George and Archie swimming well against tough opposition. Grace S and Rosie H made the girls' team and took on three other schools to finish 2nd overall, despite having to swim in twice as many races and twice in both relays. The girls certainly rose to the challenge, and the Lancing swim team will certainly be one to watch next year!
