UCAS and Global Universities Update

Over the last month University offers have been flooding in across the Lancing community much to the eager anticipation of students and staff alike. This is the culmination of months of research, university open days and crafting of personal statements, a journey supported by tutors, House Masters and Mistresses and our specialist Sixth Form and overseas university team offering dedicated one to one guidance.

At Lancing College, this moment is about far more than headline statistics; what truly matters are the individual journeys, the intellectual curiosity, resilience and ambition each student demonstrates along the way.  This year, the direction of our students and their ambitions is increasingly reflecting their awareness and interest in commercially orientated subjects.

Two dominant pathways exist which account for some 50% of applications: business focused degrees (Business Management, Finance, Marketing, Economics) and high-level STEM fields (Engineering, Physics, Natural Sciences). Alongside these, there is sustained interest in social science and humanities subjects—notably Psychology, Politics & International Relations, Geography, History, and Law—forming a second tier of popular choices.

For other pupils, more specialised directions are encouraged and supported, these include Architecture, Creative Arts, Music, Film and Design, as well as targeted applications for Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences.

Some of the early offers include:

  • David O has been awarded a significant academic scholarship at the University of California at Riverside.
  • Tami O has just received an offer from Penn State.
  • Nelly G, our Welsh International and Brighton and Hove Albion footballer, has both an athletic and academic merit full scholarship at California Coastal University for NCAA Division 1 soccer and a degree.
  • Julian N is balancing offers from St. Gallen in Switzerland, the ESSEC Business School in Paris alongside City University, London.
  • Oskar R has secured a place at a prestigious business school in Oslo, Norway
  • Zecheriah A is balancing multiple offers from US universities (Texas A&M, Rutgers, University of Minnesota) against a wide range of excellent UK offers.
