Fives Café

Fives Café

In 2024, Lancing College opened Fives Café. With its unique historical charm, Fives is a modern gathering spot for pupils and staff.

Guests can enjoy a selection of hot drinks, pastries, fresh fruit, sweet treats, snacks, and light meals in a setting that blends the school’s heritage with a vibrant, contemporary feel. The café’s name reflects the building’s original purpose, honouring the traditional handball game once played there. Architectural details, including the original plaque, preserve its history. Meanwhile, the remaining Fives Court at the College has been fully refurbished and continues to host matches and welcome players. Fives Café plays an integral role within the College community. Houses have booked the for café and their venue for inhouse evenings. It is used by staff for meetings and is a particular highlight for our prep school on Thursdays.

Fives Café is lovingly run by Café Supervisor Charmine Elphick, supported by Sarah Messer, Kay Etherington and Naomi Maeda, and overseen by our Head of Catering, Hannah Bond.

I love spending my free time at the café. The snacks are delicious, especially the ham and cheese turnovers. When you enter there is always cheerful music playing and it is a great space to hang out with my friends.
