Netball at Lancing
Netball at Lancing College is an inclusive and thriving programme that encourages every player to develop a love for the game while reaching their full potential. With participation at its heart and a growing performance pathway, we provide opportunities for pupils of all abilities to train, compete, and represent the School with pride.
Through high-quality coaching, competitive experiences, and a supportive team culture, we develop confident, resilient, and well-rounded young people both on and off the court.

Philosophy
At Lancing, we believe netball should be accessible, enjoyable, and rewarding for every player. Our aim is to create a positive environment where pupils feel confident to challenge themselves, support one another, and develop a lifelong love of the game.
Through high-quality coaching and meaningful competitive opportunities, we encourage players to:
- Develop their technical and tactical understanding of netball
- Contribute positively to a team environment
- Demonstrate commitment, resilience, and sportsmanship
- Take pride in representing Lancing
- Grow in confidence both on and off the court
Whether a pupil is playing netball for the first time or aspiring to compete at a higher level, our programme provides a supportive pathway that allows every player to learn, improve, and thrive.
Fixtures and Competitions
Regular fixtures form an important part of the netball programme at Lancing. Pupils compete against schools from across Sussex and the surrounding area, gaining valuable competitive experience while proudly representing the school.
The fixture calendar includes block fixtures throughout the Lent Term, supplemented by a number of additional matches during the Advent Term. These opportunities allow players to apply their skills in match situations and continue their development against strong opposition.
Worthing League
Pupils from the Fourth Form and above can represent Lancing in the Worthing & District Netball Association (WDNA) League, with matches taking place on Monday or Thursday evenings throughout the Advent and Lent term.
Competing in Division 2, we are working towards promotion to Division 1. The league offers players the chance to play against teams of varying ages, abilities, and experience levels, providing a challenging and rewarding environment in which to develop their understanding of the game and enhance their competitive skills.
Tournaments and Competitions
Lancing regularly competes in a range of local, regional, and national competitions, including:
- England Netball National Schools Tournament (1st VII, U16A, U14A)

- Sussex Independent Schools Netball Association (SISNA) Tournament (1st VII, U16A, U15A, U14A)
- Worthing & District Netball Association (WDNA) League
These competitions provide players with opportunities to challenge themselves against high-quality opposition, gain valuable tournament experience, and represent Lancing with pride at every level.

Sports Scholarships
Lancing’s Sports Scholarship programme provides talented athletes with a range of support mechanisms designed to maximise performance and encourage long-term development.
Sports Mentoring
Each scholar is assigned a dedicated sports mentor for their primary sport. Through termly meetings, mentors help students set goals, review progress, and identify opportunities for further development both on and off the court.
Strength and Conditioning (LTAD)
As part of our Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) programme, dedicated strength and conditioning sessions take place during co-curricular time. Senior athletes attend on Mondays, while junior athletes train on Thursdays under the guidance of Mr Footman, Head of Athletic Development.
Individual Strength and Conditioning Support (Seniors)
Senior Sports Scholars are invited to undertake weekly one-to-one sessions with Mr Footman. These sessions feature bespoke training programmes tailored to the individual athlete’s needs, sporting demands, and performance goals.
Further Enrichment Opportunities
Sports Scholars also benefit from access to a variety of performance-enhancing opportunities, including:
- Sports Nutrition Education
- Sports Psychology Support
- Netball Super League Match and Event Trips
- VEO Video Analysis
- Performance Analysis and Feedback
These opportunities are designed to broaden students’ understanding of high-performance sport while supporting their development as well-rounded athletes.
Netball Tours
Our netball tours provide players with unforgettable opportunities to develop both on and off the court. In recent years, we have been fortunate to offer tours to Barbados, combining competitive netball with a rich cultural experience.
The tour allows players to compete against local opposition, experience a different style of netball, and develop their teamwork and independence in an international setting. Alongside the sporting programme, students immerse themselves in the vibrant culture of Barbados, gaining a greater appreciation of the island’s history, traditions, and way of life.
There is also plenty of opportunity to enjoy the unique experiences Barbados has to offer, including relaxing on its beautiful beaches, swimming with turtles, and spending time exploring the island. The tour has consistently been a highlight of the netball calendar, creating lasting memories and strengthening friendships while providing valuable personal and sporting development.
We are excited to be exploring the opportunity of a multi-sport tour in the summer of 2028.
Upcoming Facilities
Lancing is committed to providing students with access to outstanding sporting facilities. As part of a planned £4 million investment in sport, the school is set to develop a new indoor multi-sport facility adjacent to the College’s grass tennis courts, scheduled for completion in September 2027.
This state-of-the-art development will provide additional training and competition space across a range of sports, including the introduction of dedicated indoor netball courts. The new facility will significantly enhance the netball programme by increasing access to high-quality training environments throughout the year, regardless of weather conditions.
The investment reflects Lancing’s ambition to continue growing and strengthening netball within the school, providing current and future players with facilities that support performance, development, and enjoyment at every level.
