1992 Leavers celebrate their 30-year reunion
It was wonderful to welcome back our leavers from 1992, 30 years since they left Lancing. On the balmy evening of 6 August, over 50 leavers came together, some for the first time since their last day here! Former teachers Jeremy Tomlinson and David Lutwyche also enjoyed catching up with their past pupils and recounting stories from the late 80s and early 90s. Guests enjoyed a tour of the school and their Houses, followed by drinks and canapés on the Chapel Lawn and then supper in the Megarry Room with music and dancing (mainly 90s hits!).
Jeremy Praud and Nigel Armstrong, who were key in organising the reunion, were delighted to see so many of their peers getting together again.
Nigel said: ‘Seeing everyone together again after 30 years was surreal yet also seemed incredibly normal at the same time! It was more like seeing old family than old school friends. A number of people had stayed in touch but seeing people that you’d last seen when you were 18 years old and still being able to instantly recognise them and name them straight away goes to show how closely tied we all were. Looking around the school and the houses was a highlight. So much had changed and it brought back so many different memories for different people – bar one memory that everyone still shared: the incredible food fight that exploded out of nowhere in the Dining Room one evening when a power cut turned all the lights off. The carnage followed by innocent faces looking around and acting bewildered when the lights came back on will remain ingrained in people’s minds forever. Thank you to Lancing College and Lancing Lodge for helping to put this together and to everyone in the year that came along – it was truly incredible for everyone to see each other, to laugh and joke like we were 18 again and to re-connect. No-one wants to leave it so long until the next time!’
