French Poetry Competition 2026
On 12 March we held the Lancing Concours D’Art Oratoire – a French Poetry Speaking competition which we have hosted for nearly two decades and which saw 65 pupils from years 6-8 in six Prep Schools reciting, by heart, a range of French poems which spanned the comic to the profound.
The afternoon emphatically proved that the teaching (and learning) of Modern Foreign Languages is alive and well and the Chapel made a glorious and impressive background to these recitations.
Our guests joined us for lunch, enjoyed a tour of the College with current students and inspired their audience by the enthusiasm, courage and passion they brought to the stage. Their performances reminded us of the power of language learning to build confidence and open doors.
As our Head of French reflects: ‘It is particularly rewarding to see so many students who first perform here in Year 7 go on to join us at Lancing, continuing their linguistic journey with such commitment.’
