Harvest Festival 28 September 2022
Dear Parents,
Firstly, thank you for your warm welcome as I join the Lancing College Community. I am enjoying meeting you all and look forward to meeting more of you in the coming weeks and months.
Our Chapel shapes our school landscape, facilitating the worship that is at the centre of our community life. We seek to learn from and be inspired by the life of Jesus Christ, who had an especial concern for those at the margins of society. I am sure we will be particularly conscious of the needs of many families across the United Kingdom, with rising energy prices, rents and food prices. Many families who were previously able to make ends meet are now having to ask their local Foodbank for support to meet their basic needs.
After Exeat, on Wednesday 28 September, our Whole School Eucharist will be a Harvest Festival. I am encouraging our pupils to celebrate the bounty of God’s creation by using the Exeat to collect items that we can donate to Worthing Foodbank. A friend, who is also a school chaplain, did something similar a few years ago and they built a huge pyramid in the middle of their Chapel from the many donations which they received.
Please support us in this endeavour by ensuring your child returns after Exeat with a donation or selection of donations from the list below. I very much hope that we, as a school community, can give a strong witness of our care for those who have fallen on hard times in the local area.
Possible items you could donate include:
• Toiletries (toothpaste, shower gel, shampoo, soap, deodorant, sanitary items, nappies)
• Tinned food (vegetables, meat, fish, soup, puddings)
• Boxes of breakfast cereal
• Pasta
• Jars of sauces
• Toilet Rolls
• Long life milk
• Pasta
• Rice
• Coffee/Tea
Please make sure that all items are in date and unopened – they may need to be stored to help people over the winter.
With best wishes,
Fr Justin Pottinger
Chaplain, Lancing College
