A Fantastic Start to the Hockey Season!
What an exciting first half of the Advent Term it has been for Lancing College Hockey! Since returning in September, our players have enjoyed a tremendous start to the season, with impressive victories, outstanding individual performances and some significant achievements at county and regional level.
There has been plenty to celebrate across the entire hockey programme, from our youngest players finding their feet in competitive fixtures to our senior teams demonstrating tremendous skill, resilience and determination.
Particularly noteworthy have been the Senior Girls’ 1st XI securing qualification for the Southeast of England Finals and our U14A girls being crowned Sussex champions. These are fantastic achievements and reflect the talent, commitment and hard work of our players and coaches.

October – A Month of Outstanding Achievements
October has seen our hockey players continue to build on their early-season successes, producing some exceptional performances in both regular fixtures and championship competitions.
Senior Girls’ 1st XI – Regional Championship Success!
One of the standout achievements of the term came at the Regional Hockey Championships, hosted by Christ’s Hospital, where our Senior Girls’ 1st XI produced a truly outstanding performance.
The girls won all three of their matches to secure qualification for the Southeast of England Finals.
Their results were:
- Lancing 3–1 Christ’s Hospital

The team demonstrated tremendous character, particularly against BHASVIC, where they fought back from 2–1 down to secure a memorable victory.
Throughout the tournament, the girls displayed exceptional teamwork, determination and composure under pressure. Their ability to respond to challenges and maintain their focus in crucial moments was particularly impressive.
To finish the competition with three victories and secure progression to the next stage is a fantastic achievement and thoroughly deserved.
Congratulations to the 1st XI squad:

In an exciting end-to-end encounter, the girls showed tremendous determination and resilience to secure the win against strong opposition.

This was a particularly impressive result against an opposition school’s 1st XI and a reflection of the growing confidence and quality within our second team.
Double Success Against Lingfield

Two victories and two clean sheets made for another excellent afternoon of senior hockey.
More Than Just Results
While our results on the pitch have been extremely encouraging, it is equally important to recognise the commitment, enthusiasm and sportsmanship demonstrated by our players throughout the first half of term.
The hockey programme continues to provide opportunities for girls of all abilities to represent Lancing, develop their skills and enjoy being part of a team.
From the determination of our 3rd and 4th XI players to the exciting potential emerging within our junior squads, there is much to celebrate beyond the headline results.
The willingness of our girls to support one another, work hard in training and represent the College with pride remains at the heart of everything we aim to achieve.
Looking Ahead
With the 1st XI preparing for the Southeast of England Finals and our U14A Sussex champions looking to build on their success, there is plenty to look forward to as the hockey season progresses.
The first half of term has provided some wonderful moments, and we are excited to see what the coming weeks will bring.
Finally, a huge thank you to our dedicated coaching staff, grounds team, match officials and all the parents and supporters who contribute so much to the success of our hockey programme.
Congratulations to every player who has represented Lancing College this term. It has been a fantastic start, and we look forward to even more exciting hockey ahead!
