Our final exeat of the academic year provided a fitting end to another successful programme of weekends away. Designed to give our boarders the chance to relax, explore and spend quality time with friends, the Home and Away exeat programme continues to provide some of the most enjoyable and memorable moments of the year.
This time, our destination was Thorpe Park, where students spent the day making the most of the rides and attractions. For some, it was an opportunity to test their bravery on some of the UK’s fastest rollercoasters, while others preferred to enjoy the atmosphere and spend the day with friends. The combination of excitement, laughter and shared experiences made for a wonderful day out and a perfect celebration as the end of term approached.
After leaving the park, the group enjoyed dinner together at a nearby Italian restaurant. As is often the case on these weekends, the meal became far more than simply a chance to eat. It was an opportunity to reflect on the day’s adventures, share stories, laugh about memorable moments and enjoy each other’s company away from the routines of school life.
The value of the exeat programme has always been about finding the right balance. Alongside organised activities, students are given the opportunity to slow down, spend time with friends and enjoy the simple pleasure of having time and space to relax. As one student commented following our previous exeat, these weekends offer “a break from the busy life at Lancing” whilst still providing exciting opportunities and experiences.
Looking ahead, we are excited to continue developing the Home and Away programme next year with two new London-based exeats already planned. The first will see students taking part in a James Bond-themed adventure across the capital, working in teams to solve clues, navigate famous landmarks and experience London in an entirely new way. Later in the term, our second exeat will embrace the festive season with Christmas markets, seasonal shopping and the spectacular Christmas lights that make London such a special place to visit at that time of year.
While each exeat offers something different, they all share the same purpose: giving our students opportunities to explore beyond the College, build friendships, develop independence and create lasting memories. Whether that takes the form of a rollercoaster at Thorpe Park, a walk through a Christmas market, or solving clues in the heart of London, these weekends continue to play an important role in enriching the boarding experience.
