This year, Lancing students are celebrating outstanding results, with nearly 40% of exams graded the top 8 or 9. Converted to the former grades, you would have to go back to 2010 to find a comparably good year with this year’s equivalence to the old A*-B grades being 87% of all grades.
There has been a wealth of excellent outcomes with an incredible 59 students from this year’s cohort averaging in excess of a Grade 7 average. Furthermore, 20 students achieved over a Grade 8 average and 60 students achieved at least one Grade 9, the gold standard A** equivalent for remarkable achievement. Good results have been achieved across all subjects; particularly strong departments included:
- Mathematics, taken by all students, where over half of all grades awarded were at Grade 8 or 9 (a feat equalled by our excellent Music Department!). Maths is an extremely popular subject at A Level, with almost half of Lancing College students on average continuing their studies in the subject.
- Sciences continued to perform very strongly, with 53% of Biology students, 59% of Chemistry students, and 61% of Physics students achieving Grade 8 or 9. The strength of the sciences is seen at A Level as well as the undergraduate studies of Lancing students, whose studies have extended to Medicine and Veterinary, multiple Engineering disciplines, pure Sciences, Aeronautics, Renewables and Forensics.
- Art had an incredible set of results with 45% of the candidates entered scoring Grade 9, the coveted A** equivalent.
Commenting on these excellent results, Head Master Dominic Oliver said:
"We are all immensely proud of the GCSE results Lancing pupils have achieved this year – there is a real commitment to learning amongst this group and I am excited to think of what they will achieve at the next stage of their education.
The staff at Lancing have played a vital part too: it is my firm belief that these grades come down not just to the academic expertise we have in spades here, but the shared vocation and determination of all at the College to bring out the best in every member of the community.
These results are even more impressive when you consider that for at least a quarter of the students, part of our amazing International community represented by over 40 different nationalities, English is not their first language."
These results come on top of our excellent A Level results last week.
