Prep School Events
We have always run annual events for pupils from your schools, and these have been very enjoyable and successful. These have included the Choral Days, Orchestra Days, the French Poetry Competition, the Science Challenge and a myriad of sporting events. This year we decided to build on these successes and provide a greater breadth of opportunity so that more pupils can participate. In addition, we hope that they benefit your school as a means of providing new and exciting experiences for your pupils.
We hosted an Art Afternoon in November, on the theme of Remembrance, where pupils spent time in our beautiful art studios creating ceramic poppies, cyanotypes and monoprints. Their creations were simply beautiful, and all the children had a wonderful time and a teacher commented: ‘I just wanted to say a big thank-you for organising the Year 6 Art Afternoon. The children had an amazing time and really enjoyed creating their ceramic poppies and trying out the dark room. The Art Department are a very talented group of people.’
In January, prep children in Years 5 and 6 joined us for a Drama Afternoon. They met some of our Drama Scholars, who led them in a warmup session; they met our Theatre Technician who spent time showing them the tremendous possibility and creativity which comes from the small black box at the back of the Theatre and then they joined a workshop on the theme of Shipwreck! The feedback was brilliant including from the parent of a boy who said, ‘He was buzzing tonight – he said it was the “best day – ever and so much fun.” He was also very taken by the lighting deck. Thank you for organising, taking them, and fostering such excitement and joy!’
Looking forward, we have several more new events: A Morning of Sport in February which will give children the opportunity to try most of our major games, a Dance Afternoon for pupils in Years 4 and 5 in March which has the theme of K-Pop following the award of a Grammy to the Song of the Year ‘ Golden’ from the film Demon Hunters, and then a Farm Experience Day in May which we are expecting to be very popular! We will also run our second Jamboree in June building on the success and popularity of last year’s adventure!
If you would like any more information about the Jamboree or any other prep school events, please contact us on admissions@lancing.org.uk
