The House Music Competition began in October with the House Singing Competition, followed by the Rock and Pop competition in December. Over the past two weeks, there have been over 250 solo, duet and ensemble entries into the competition ranging from Class 1 (Grades 1-3) to the Open (Grade 8+) Class, culminating in the Open Class Final on Friday 7 February.
This year’s winners were Gibbs’ House, scoring over 500 points – a well-deserved win after they were runners up for the last two years! This year's runners up were Field’s House, who were also the winners of the House Singing Competition. The solo winner this year was Maria N, with a mature and sophisticated rendition of ‘Oh! quante volte’ from I Capuleti e Montecchi. Maria also won the duet class alongside Izzy M, performing ‘De terrente’ from Handel’s Dixit dominus, and ensemble winners were saxophone ensemble, Honk! Awards were presented to winners of each Open Class, along with the Peter Davis cup for contribution to the competition being presented to Inigo AB.

Read A REVIEW BY MR ALEX MASON, DIRECTOR OF MUSIC
The House Music Competition is a true highlight in the Lancing musical calendar. The calibre of entries this year was particularly high, and it was a real joy to witness the array of entries across the two days of the competition. Some highlights included the vocal ensemble category, where entries ranged from ‘Beautiful Girls’ by Sean Kingston to Stravinsky’s ‘Ave Maria’, and the Open Piano class lasting over an hour and a half, featuring a range of virtuosic performances, including Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsody No.6 and Gnomenreigen. Our thanks go to James Lark who had the unenviable task of adjudicating this year’s Open Final.
