Sport Highlights – End of Advent Term
Success of the Hockey Club
In his first term at Lancing Head of Hockey, David Janes, has been extremely impressed with our players’ work ethic; many of them are balancing not only their academic work, but also music and drama commitments, alongside their hockey very successfully. With the new year ahead of us, planning is already well underway to continue to build upon the Lancing girls’ successful season.
Success within hockey has been shared across all age groups at the College this year, with wins in many highly competitive fixtures against Hurst, Seaford, Christ’s Hospital, Charterhouse, Worth, Portsmouth Grammar and Roedean.
The U14A and 1st XI squads should be highly commended for ‘Team of the Season’, not only for their good results against some very strong opposition, but for their development as a squad. However, it is our U15As who are the rightful recipients of ‘Team of the Season’. Through their dedicated approach to training and developing themselves as individuals and as a team, they have been fantastic and remain undefeated. With plenty of promise, excitement, and ambition within the team, we can’t wait to get pre-season started, as we are already planning for the exciting future that awaits during the next academic year.
Girls’ Hockey Round Up
In the away fixture against Roedean, our 1st XI’s goalkeeper Grace M kept Lancing in the game. Isabella H scored the opening goal, with Roedean fighting straight back and scoring an equaliser just before half time. With a well-worked manoeuvre, Isabella H scored her second goal and what would prove to be the winner for Lancing, with the end result 2-1. MVP was Isabella.
The U15As finished the season undefeated with a 1-1 draw against Roedean’s U16A just before the end of term.

Football Round Up
With over 100 football matches involving around 200 pupils, this term has been a busy one for football at Lancing. In the Advent Term Lancing’s teams travelled along the south coast for many competitive fixtures, also giving our pupils the best chance to showcase their abilities at the highest level of school football in both ISFA and ESFA cups.
As well as competitive matches, the Saturday fixture blocks have allowed all pupils to gain match time and develop their talents. The standout teams have been the 1st, 2nd and 5th teams. In addition to a good run in both the ISFA and ESFA cup, the 1st XI have reached the quarter finals of the ISFA Trophy and District Cup both taking place in the new year. The 2nd XI have also had an excellent finish to the season, winning four of their last five matches, scoring 20 goals along the way. Our unbeaten 5th team suffered their first defeat at the beginning of December, but have had a fantastic term and been a standout football team for Lancing this year.
For the Juniors, our U15A team have made huge progress and shown much promise. It has also been pleasing to see Lancing field A–C teams in both U14 and U15 age groups who have performed well and shown improvements.
Girls’ football has developed well with two sessions each week during the Co-curricular programme. With pre-season training and competitive fixtures upcoming the opportunity for girls to develop football at Lancing is now stronger than ever.
