Sporting Highlights – 17 November 2023
Gabriella S continued her recent world championship success at Clacton-on-Sea at the weekend in the National Irish Dancing Competition, taking first place in the 2 Hand, fifth in the Championship, second in the Traditional Set Championship, first in the Heavy Reel Championship, first in the 6 Hand … and she won the Show Dance!
Badminton
Nam S joined the Senior badminton team, representing Sussex’s Third team over the weekend playing at Herefordshire Sports Village. Nam played against two extremely strong teams, Middlesex and Oxford, and her team won with an overall score of 9-2 and 8-3.
Nam’s performance on court was played at a very high standard. Despite being one of the youngest players on court, she showed her mature and exceptional skills, she was able to defeat players with far more experience in the county competition last weekend.
On 11 November, Eastbourne college visited Lancing College for a rematch of their first fixture. A fantastic performance from all of the players, with lots of very close matches. Eastbourne won more doubles matches (9-7) but Lancing won more singles matches (16-12). So, in the end Lancing were the overall winners – with a narrow victory of 23-21!
Representing Lancing were Nathan S, Jesse N, Alistair H, Albert L, Laurin S, Will H, Marius P-A and Mingli J.
Special congratulations to Will, Marius and Mingli for representing Lancing in their first fixture and for rising to the challenge!
