Hockey Club News
A competitive block of hockey matches against PGS last weekend, with four teams away and our senior girls at home. The match of the week goes to the U14As who beat PGS 2-0 with two cracking goals from our Most Valuable Player Coco M. The U15As were unlucky to draw 1-1, the only goal coming from Emily S. Our Most Valuable Player awards go to Alex K (Goal Keeper) and Grace H for their amazing efforts in defence.
There were close matches on Monday for our U15s vs Seaford: A narrow 1-0 loss for the U15As, with MVP awards going to Ava U and Amelia P; a 2-0 loss for the U15Bs, with MVPs Nadia L and Annika M.
Football Club News
It was a fantastic weekend for football at Lancing! After a tough midweek, the 1st and 2nd XI bounced back with momentous victories over the Lancing Old Boys, their first in over 15 years!
oals from Alex B, Tom H, Seb F and Will P securing a 4-2 win for the 1st XI, whilst Henry R, George H and Zach A-J scored to give the 2nd XI a 3-2 comeback victory. Our 3rd, 4th and 5th XI also entertained Charterhouse and ensured a clean sweep for the senior teams. Closely fought matches were won 3-2, 2-1 and 3-0 to secure five out of five wins for the Seniors.
Unfortunately, it was a more difficult afternoon for the Junior teams with U15 and U14 A, B and C teams all in action. Four losses, one draw and one win left room for improvement. Nonetheless, it was excellent to see all teams participate in our first full Junior block of the term. Our pick of the junior teams was the U14C team who ran out 4-1 winners over Charterhouse. Goals from Yash A (2), Ollie B and Samuel B gave Mr Swinfield’s team their first victory.
Team of the week:
Goalkeeper (shared between): Ethan B, Angus McL and Barney W.
Defenders: Monty W, Sam J, Tom H, George O H.
Midfielders: Hilmi M, Isa J, Ollie B.
Strikers: Yash A, Jan C and Seb D.
Star player of the Week is Jan C.
Swimming news
Grace W swam at the Eastbourne County Qualifying Gala last weekend and picked up five top 10 placings. She narrowly missed out on bronze medals in the 50m backstroke and 50m freestyle, eventually coming fourth in both events. Well done to Grace for her impressive attitude, and for the help and guidance she gave to our prep school swimmers throughout the course of the competition.
A full and extensive weekend of sport ahead: We have 13 football teams out against Winchester tomorrow, a first for Lancing College. The cross-country team travel to Charterhouse, our U19s, U16s and U14s travel to the University of Brighton for the National Netball competition, the Badminton team travel to Eastbourne, a full training block for girls’ hockey and George G is playing in the Junior Club Championship at West Hove golf club on Saturday and Sunday.
Good luck to all of those involved!
