Sporting Highlights – Friday 16 October 2026

Following last week’s tremendous sporting successes, Lancing’s winning momentum shows no signs of slowing down! It has been another outstanding week across the College, with excellent victories in basketball against Ardingly, golf against Eastbourne College, and tennis against both Brighton College and Hurstpierpoint College. However, it is on the hockey and football pitches where there has been even more to celebrate, with some exceptional performances, thrilling victories and further silverware to add to our growing collection!

Hockey News
Our 1st XI continued their outstanding form at the Regional Championships at Christ’s Hospital last Tuesday, producing three excellent performances to defeat Christ’s Hospital, Mayfield and BHASVIC. Winning all three matches secured their place in the South East of England Finals.

The success continued on Saturday as the 2nd XI faced Embley School’s 1st XI in a thrilling end-to-end encounter. Goals from Poppy G and Izzy C secured a hard-fought 2–1 victory, with Lila D and Poppy G earning MVP honours.

On Tuesday, both Senior teams recorded further victories against Lingfield. The 1st XI left it late, with captain Grace H scoring a dramatic last-minute winner to secure a 1–0 victory and maintain the team’s perfect 100% winning record this season.

The 2nd XI matched their success with another 1–0 victory, courtesy of Grace W. Special recognition goes to both goalscorers, Grace H and Grace W, alongside goalkeepers Mika L and Molly C, whose outstanding saves and clean sheets proved crucial in securing both wins.

Finally, congratulations to Miss Bierton and the U14A girls, who travelled to Christ’s Hospital on Tuesday for the Sussex Regional Finals. The team produced two superb performances, defeating Christ’s Hospital 2–0 before delivering an emphatic 4–0 victory over Sackville to be crowned Sussex Gold Medallists!
This fantastic achievement means that both the U14A and 1st XI have now qualified for the next stage of their respective competitions after Half Term.

Congratulations to all our hockey players on an exceptional week of results!

Tennis News
Last Saturday, we welcomed Hurst for an afternoon of competitive tennis, with 22 singles and doubles matches played across the fixture. It was fantastic to see so much tennis on display, with several promising performances and plenty of positives to take forward.
Building on our recent 7-6 win over Brighton College, our squad of 13 College players delivered another strong performance, securing a confident 12-8 victory over Hurst. MVPs are awarded to Ben Atkins, Jacob Turner and Olivia Milchan for their dominant and impressive singles performances.
The team result marks an excellent start to our preparations for the 2026-27 season. After half term, we look forward to taking on Collyer’s, Rikkyo, Mayfield and Sackville in the first of the LTA Year 11-13 Tournament.

Basketball News
Lancing Senior Basketball made an excellent start to the season with a convincing 69–49 victory over Ardingly. Led by Ena T-M’s scoring, Lancing were the stronger side from the opening tip-off, demonstrating great teamwork and energy throughout. It was particularly pleasing to see so many players making their first appearances for the College and contributing to an impressive team performance. A well-deserved win and a fantastic start to the season.
