Sporting Highlights – Friday 19 June 2026
Athletics
The Sussex Schools Championships last Saturday provided a fitting finale to another successful athletics season, with 11 Lancing athletes proudly representing West Sussex South against the very best competitors from across the county.
To qualify for this event is a huge achievement, and our athletes once again demonstrated the commitment, resilience and competitive spirit that have characterised the season. Congratulations go to Bibi W and Hugo V d P, whose performances have earned them selection for the Inter-Counties Championships in Kent this weekend, where they will compete against the best athletes from across the Southeast.
A huge well done to all 11 athletes. To see so many Lancing students wearing the West Sussex South vest is a testament to the hard work they have put in throughout the year. On behalf of all the athletics staff, thank you for the commitment, enthusiasm and energy you have brought to training and competition throughout the season. We are incredibly proud of what this group has achieved and are excited to see what next year holds.
Tennis
The Tennis Club served up a perfect finish last Saturday in their final block fixture of the year against Seaford College.
With the boys travelling away and competing with confidence, and the girls holding down the fort at home, it was a superb all-round performance. Every team – U14s, U15s, 1st, 2nd and 3rd – secured impressive victories, demonstrating the strength and depth of tennis across the College.
The closest contest came from our Junior girls, who showed outstanding determination and resilience. Their hard work paid off as they battled right through to the final match, when Lexi P & Kimberly L emerged victorious with a 6-4 win, to secure the team their overall 5–4 victory.
Coaches awarded MVPs to Jacob T, Molly G and Sophia W.
It was a fitting and well-deserved high to end the season, marking the final ever match for our 2026 leavers.
In other news …
On Wednesday 17 June, we celebrated sport at our Sixth Form Annual Sports Dinner. Unfortunately, due to examinations taking place this week, two of our award recipients were unable to attend and collect their awards in person.
The Coaches Player award being presented recognises a player from each team or activity who has demonstrated outstanding growth and development, exemplary sportsmanship, leadership, punctuality, and a positive contribution to team spirit throughout the season.
We therefore belatedly congratulate:
Shimon M – 2nd Team Boys’ Tennis
Andrew B – 3rd Team Boys’ Tennis
