Sporting Highlights – Friday 27 March 2026
Equestrian News
In equestrian news, Alice Y and Tom M delivered impressive performances at the Schools’ Show Jumping competition at Coombelands last Sunday. Competing in large and highly competitive classes of around 45 riders, both showed great skill and composure.
Alice produced a strong round in the 85cm class to secure an excellent 7th place finish, while Tom followed up with an equally impressive performance, taking 8th place in the 95cm class. To place in the top ten in such sizeable fields is a fantastic achievement for both riders and reflects the high standard of riding on display.
Girls’ House Football
The girls’ house football competition wrapped up in the final week of term, with terrible weather doing little to slow the action. A tightly contested group stage saw strong defensive displays across the board.
Manor and Handford progressed to the final, while Sankey’s secured third place with a 2–0 win over Field’s and Saints’.
Despite Handford winning all their group matches, Manor took the title thanks to a dramatic last-minute winner from Constance d F, securing back-to-back championships. Handford finished as runners-up for the fourth consecutive year in a fiercely competitive tournament.
House Netball
House Netball delivered once again: fast, colourful, and fiercely competitive from start to finish. Manor dominated the round robin stage, beating every team to top the standings and set up a blockbuster final against familiar rivals Sankey’s—a repeat of last year’s senior showdown.
The final more than lived up to the hype. Locked level at halftime, both sides showed outstanding defensive intensity and determination. But in a tense closing spell, Sankey’s found another gear, edging ahead to secure a 5–3 victory and take the title.
In the Junior competition, Manor and Handford topped the table to reach the final in another high-quality contest. Manor delivered a composed and confident performance to be crowned Junior House Champions.
