Sports Highlights – A Fantastic Five Weeks of Sport at Lancing
It has been an exceptionally busy and successful period for Lancing sport, with impressive performances, cup runs, tournament success and individual accolades across a wide range of disciplines.
Football has been outstanding this term. The 1st XI Boys showed resilience on several occasions, notably coming from behind to beat Sevenoaks 3–1, while also securing victories over the OLs and Portsmouth Grammar to extend their unbeaten home run to eight matches. The 2nd XI have been equally impressive, recording a series of strong wins, including a 5–3 triumph over the OLs and an emphatic 8–0 victory midweek. David O has been in remarkable goalscoring form, netting eight goals in three matches. The U16A side earned Team of the Week honours with a dominant 6–1 win, while the 1st XI Girls delivered one of the standout performances of the term with a superb 5–0 victory over Sevenoaks. The House Football competitions provided a thrilling end to term, with School and Saints’ claiming the Junior title and Gibbs’ winning a dramatic Senior final on penalties for the second consecutive year.
In Hockey, there has been success at both regional and national levels. The U16 Girls secured a bronze medal at the South England Finals, a fitting reward for an excellent season. The U14A Girls finished fourth at the South England National Finals, topping their group with notable wins before two narrow knockout defeats. The U16 Boys began their National Cup campaign with a strong 4–2 victory, while senior sides recorded important wins against Churcher’s and Worth. Hugo M’s hat-trick in the U15A’s 5–1 win was a particular highlight. We also congratulate him on his Great Britain U17 selection.
Netball fixtures have been closely contested and competitive throughout. The 3rd VII’s thrilling 28–27 win over Ardingly demonstrated composure under pressure, while the U14A team delivered a commanding 29–13 victory against Worth. Across all age groups there have been determined performances, with numerous MVP awards reflecting the strength and depth within the squads.
On the courts, Basketball continued its excellent run with commanding wins over Ardingly (69–51) and Worth (71–33), showcasing strong teamwork and consistency.
In Badminton, the senior team produced a dominant 19–6 victory over Eastbourne College, maintaining control throughout after an early lead. Teo K and Yuhao Z were unbeaten across all their matches.
Swimming saw 22 Lancing swimmers compete in the third round of the Schools Super Swimming League, finishing an excellent third place and narrowly ahead of City of London Freemans. Captains Bianca SA and Isaac B led from the front, with multiple individual wins and relay success, alongside several personal bests and county championship qualifications.
In Cross Country, our runners performed superbly at the Sussex Championships. Bibi W finished 14th in a field of over 200 runners to qualify for the South East Inter-Counties, while Theo SF placed 21st in a highly competitive race.
Finally, in Tennis, players enjoyed significant success over the Christmas break, with Jacob T winning four tournaments, Ben A claiming doubles titles, Logan B reaching multiple finals, and Coco M achieving a national U16 Padel ranking of 12th. Congratulations also to Tom M, awarded Half Colours for his dedication to the equestrian team.
