As a renowned educational institution that prides itself on nurturing global citizens, Lancing College continues to excel in fostering international study opportunities for its students. Our commitment to providing a well-rounded education extends beyond any borders, allowing our pupils to explore diverse cultures, broaden their horizons, and secure places at prestigious universities worldwide. In this article, we proudly highlight some of our recent graduates who will be embarking on exciting academic journeys across the globe.

We are thrilled to announce that Nana Oduro Nyaningn (Gibbs’ 2018–2023), one of our exceptional students and Heads of School (2022–2023), has been admitted to the esteemed University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, in the United States. Nana's outstanding achievements and potential have been recognised through the prestigious Morehead-Cain Scholarship, a testament to both his academic prowess and leadership skills.

I am incredibly proud to say that I will be taking up a place at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as a Morehead-Cain Scholar. I will be majoring in Politics and Government and Global Studies as a student in the university’s honours college. The application process was certainly demanding. Annually, there are around 2,000 nominees, with several rounds of interviews and activities to determine the final selection. Only around 50 to 75 scholarships are offered each year (approximately a 4% acceptance rate), but there was one important factor that swung the odds significantly in my favour. The expert guidance and belief from teachers, coaches, and my mother made all the difference. A whole ‘village of support' if you will.

I cannot wait to take full advantage of the various opportunities for scholars to engage in global experiences and study abroad programmes, as well as access to challenging internships and the chance to immerse myself in a network of scholars and alumni a mile wide and a mile deep. I am also looking to continue my athletic career at UNC. A Morehead-Cain scholar should embody the characteristics of leadership, the moral force of character, scholarship, and physical vigour. All characteristics I believe are nurtured effectively by a Lancing College education.

Kitty Chadwyck Healy (Manor 2017–2022) and Alex Dudnyk (House 2020–2022) have secured their places at renowned liberal arts colleges in the United States and will begin studies this Autumn after taking an enriching gap year. Kitty's journey takes her to Pomona College, renowned for its interdisciplinary approach and commitment to fostering intellectual curiosity. Alex, on the other hand, will be attending Carleton College, known for its strong academic programmes and vibrant campus community.

What I’m looking forward to most is the breadth of study that’s offered at Pomona, as it’s a liberal arts college. There are so many opportunities for me to delve into my interests, academic or otherwise, and discover new ones while achieving my degree. I’m going to be majoring in politics, so that will be my main focus, but I will also have the chance to study languages, arts, sciences, and even more. I am nervous to be going so far from home, but at the same time, I’m excited for all the new possibilities and the independence I will gain. I’m also very much looking forward to the sunny weather in California!
