Art & Design Technology

We aim to encourage all our pupils to enjoy and take pleasure in the creative process. Children develop confident and enthusiastic attitudes towards Art by encouraging a sense of achievement.

At Lancing Prep Worthing, we aim to encourage all our pupils to develop confident and enthusiastic attitudes towards Art and DT through carefully structured projects. These aim to provide them with skills that they can build upon as they progress through the school. Projects are designed to inspire pupils to ‘Love Learning’ and introduce them to a diverse range of artists and designers. Pupil outcomes utilize a variety of media in both 2D and 3D, including drawing, painting, print, textiles, wood, and ceramics.

Art in Years 1 and 2 is taught by the form tutor using an integrated approach, which allocates time to ensure that appropriate levels of confidence and competence are developed. From Year 3 to Year 8, pupils are taught Art and DT in our dedicated studio. The studio is equipped with a range of specialist equipment, including a kiln, electric saws, a printing press, and a 3D printer.

In-class activities are complemented by art clubs, visits to museums and art galleries, visiting artists, and competition opportunities.

Being an Art Scholar really helped develop my sense of independence and resilience. The teachers encouraged me to try new things independently whilst still supporting and guiding me throughout.
