ISI Inspections

The Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) is appointed by the Department for Education (DfE) and is the regulator for independent schools in England. Schools undergo a scheduled inspection, on average, every three years. They report to the DfE the extent to which schools meet the Independent School Standards. ISI inspects more than 1,200 independent schools in England, which together educate over 500,000 children and young people, annually.

In May 2025, Lancing Prep Worthing was inspected under the Independent Schools Inspectorate’s (ISI) new framework, which came into effect from September 2023. Under framework 23, schools no longer receive a one-word judgement or grade; instead, pupil experience is scrutinised under four areas:

  1. 1. Leadership and management
  2. 2. Quality of education
  3. 3. Pupils’ physical, mental and emotional wellbeing
  4. 4. Pupils’ social and economic education and contribution to society

The inspection took place over four days. During their visit, inspectors observed lessons and met with pupils, staff from both teaching and support roles and members of our Governing Body. Questionnaires were sent out to all parents, pupils and staff and responses were analysed.

The report reflects the excellence of Lancing Prep Worthing and the superb nature of our care and work with pupils, both within and beyond the classroom. We are recognised to meet all the standards and regulations governing the running of an independent prep school and to be compliant in all areas. All reports contain recommendations as to next steps.

We are delighted that the inspectors have recognised so many aspects of Lancing Prep Worthing life that we are immensely proud of too. We hope that you enjoy reading the full inspection report below.
