A look back at the Summer Term 2023
This term, as all our terms are, has been action-packed: Numbers Day, celebrations for the Coronation of Charles III, sports days, trips, The Bannister Mile, Third Generation Day, and Matilda the Musical, to name but a few, and the pupils have risen to every occasion.
Our pupils are extraordinary. All children have the potential to be great, but sadly, some are not provided with the opportunities they need to enable them to grow and fulfil their potential. At LPW, all our children are encouraged, supported, cajoled, and perhaps most importantly, inspired. They take pride in their learning, and here it is ‘cool’ to learn. The teachers strive to engage them in activities and interests beyond the classroom and take a positive interest in their interests.
This year we put on our annual school musical, ‘Matilda’. The children rehearsed the musical numbers and choreography enthusiastically at school in preparation for three wonderful performances at the Lancing College theatre. Families and friends came along to enjoy the shows!
Our Third Generation Day this year was celebrated with a host of fun activities and celebrations. Nursery and Reception children enjoyed a bouncy castle, tea cup ride, and face painting, while Year 1 and 2 visited Paultons Park and Years 3–8 visited Chessington. Everyone had a fantastic time, and a big thank you to our wonderful Parents’ Association, which does so much to enhance our children’s experience at school.
Once again, Year 8 worked in collaboration with the Worthing Archaeological Society on a dig in the corner of our school field to uncover any remnants of the former Broadwater Manor outbuildings that it is believed were demolished at some point in the first part of the 20th century. We didn’t find any buried treasure, sadly, but there were a number of artefacts unearthed. It was very exciting, and the younger year groups can’t wait to dig up the rest of the field when their time comes!
Sports days were celebrated wonderfully again this year. The children were exceptional and gave their all during the events. The younger children competed in the egg and spoon, bean bag, and sack races. The older pupils competed in the 80m, 150m, and 600m races along with an obstacle course, finishing with a lovely picnic on the school field. Thank you to all our lovely families for coming along to support us. The children had a great day.
Our annual sponsored run took place again this term, but for the first time, it was held on Broadwater Green. It was fantastic to see the children’s enthusiasm and so many parents coming along to support them. The pupils raised £2195.63 for the DEC Turkey/Syria Earthquake Appeal.
We were delighted to hold our end-of-year celebration at the College Chapel, with prizes handed out and paying tribute to our Year 8 pupils as their time with us drew to a close. We are so proud of these young people and all that they have achieved in their time with us. With 16 scholarships and exhibitions to Lancing College, they have done so well in their endeavours in every aspect of our three school aims: Love Learning, Be Kind, and Go out into the World and Do Good. We bade them farewell with every good wish for the next step in their journey.
Finally, now that the summer term is at its end, it is time to say farewell to Mrs. Beeby, who has dedicated her heart and soul to our school community, LPW.
Mrs. Beeby has been a beacon of inspiration and guidance, leading us on a path of knowledge, growth, and achievement. Her tireless commitment to LPW has left an indelible mark on the lives of countless children, their families, and staff.
She has exemplified unwavering dedication to our school’s aims and what we are all trying to achieve: an outstanding and happy school that produces good and kind humans. Her leadership has fostered an environment where the children feel empowered, teachers feel supported, and a true sense of community thrives.
LPW has flourished. Mrs. Beeby has worked hard to create an atmosphere of inclusivity where diversity is celebrated and every child is encouraged to reach their full potential.
It’s not just her professional accomplishments that we celebrate, but also the personal connections that Mrs.Beeby has forged with each member of our school community. She possesses an uncanny ability to see the best in others, nuturing their strengths and guiding us towards success.
As we see Mrs. Beeby move on to her next chapter, we are filled with gratitude for the years of service and dedication she has bestowed upon us. We are also filled with sadness, knowing that her wisdom and presence will be greatly missed within the LPW walls.
On behalf of the entire school community, we would like to express our deepest appreciation. Thank you for being you.
