Music
Music at Lancing Prep Worthing develops musicianship skills through a variety of classroom based activities focussing on listening, performing and composing. Social skills are developed through collaborating in performing and composing tasks; language is developed through song and ideas and feelings are developed through the exploration of sound.
About the Curriculum
Pupils are exposed to music from a wide variety of genres. Musicianship is taught and developed through the use of symbols, scores, pictures and games, leading onto stick and staff notation. There is a large emphasis on singing at LPW, and pupils develop self-confidence through solo and group opportunities for performing in different venues and for different occasions. Pupils from Years 6 to 8 develop their performance and composition skills in singing tasks and on the keyboard as part of their topic work which focuses on music from different genres.
Teaching Approach
Music is taught throughout the school by a music specialist. Nursery & Pre-School, Reception and Pre-Prep children are taught musicianship skills which focuses on the elements of music. Pulse/Rhythm/Pitch and Tempo are taught throughout the Pre-Prep through singing and exploring games, rhymes and chants.
