Lancing College delivers swimming lessons and training to Senior and Prep students. In addition to this, Lancing College also has their own highly successful swim school, Lancing College Swim School, and a competitive swimming club, Lancing College Swimming Club. Lancing College also provides lessons for schools in the local community, and the pool is often hired out for community use.
The Appointment
We are seeking dedicated and responsible individuals to join our team as a Lifeguard at Lancing College. As a Lifeguard, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and public visitors during their visit to the pool.
Job Title: Lifeguard (Bank)
Reports to: Swimming Pool Manager
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
- To maintain continuous and effective supervision of all pool users, remaining alert to potential hazards and responding promptly and appropriately to any signs of distress, unsafe behaviour, or emergencies.
- To uphold and enforce all pool rules, safety guidelines, and operational procedures to ensure a safe and positive experience for all users.
- To provide first aid, CPR, and appropriate emergency assistance when required, in accordance with current training, qualifications, and the organisation’s Pool Safety Operating Procedures (PSOP).
- To participate in all required training, refresher sessions, and ongoing professional development to maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of lifeguarding practices, rescue techniques, and safety protocols.
- To carry out routine hygiene and cleanliness checks, ensuring that poolside areas, facilities, and equipment are maintained to appropriate health, safety, and hygiene standards.
- To conduct routine water quality, temperature, and chemical level checks in line with training and operational requirements and report any concerns immediately to the Duty Manager.
- To support the safe delivery of swimming lessons, aquatic activities, or other programmes as required and within the scope of training and competence.
- To communicate effectively and professionally with colleagues, students, and visitors, offering clear guidance and instructions when needed to support safety and smooth operations.
Skills and Experience:
- Possess a National Pool Lifeguard qualification.
- Proven experience as a lifeguard, demonstrating strong water rescue and first aid skills.
- Excellent observation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to remain calm and act decisively in emergency situations.
- Physical fitness and stamina to perform the duties of a lifeguard, including extended periods of standing and swimming.
- Knowledge of pool maintenance and safety procedures.
- Responsible and dependable, with a strong commitment to maintaining high standards of safety and cleanliness.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and establish positive relationships with colleagues and pool users.
