Sporting Highlights – 24 June 2022
It was great to see the hockey players out on the pitch last week playing in a pre-season friendly against Roedean. Special mention to Poppy S for her solid work in mid-field and a great goal from Nerea K-M. The game ended 3-1 to Roedean but lots of promise shown from the young team.
House cricket took place last Saturday and it was lovely to see the girls out in force on the top pitch. Awards will be handed out next Friday in the end-of-year assembly.
In summary, the Girls’ cricket winners were Sankey’s, with Field’s as runners up. The Junior Boys winners were Heads with Seconds as runners up. Finally, the senior boy’s winners were School with Gibbs as runners up.
On Tuesday, over 50 Third and Fourth Form students descended on to the tennis courts to participate in the Junior Manor Cup mixed doubles tournament. Our secret judges were unanimous in their decision in awarding the Best Fancy Dress prize to Third Formers Harry Z and Lili R for having played all their matches dressed as a giant shark and shrimp. The Best Pair prize was awarded to Paddy J and Isabelle K for their combination of tennis, teamwork, fancy dress, and great sportsmanship, all of which were noted by several members of staff throughout the afternoon.
Despite being the youngest cohort, we had an all-Third Form first semi-final between Austin J and Hattie P vs Rory H and Kitty H; after some cracking points, Austin and Hattie took the win 10-8.
Fellow Third Formers, Lucas B and Chloe W took on Fourth Formers George H and Hanna G-R in the second semi-final. With George and Hanna eventually winning their place in the final after securing another very close 10-8 result, it was looking to be an all-out competitive Third Form vs Fourth Form final. George H and Hanna G-R eventually took the victory 19-17 (in the tie-break)
House Tennis will return on Saturday 25 June with the Senior Boys’ and Girls’ events starting at 1pm and the Junior Boys’ and Girls’ events starting at 2.30pm. On Thursday 30 June, it is the Fifth and Sixth Forms’ turn to participate in the Senior Manor Cup tournament.
