Easter Holiday Sporting News
Girls Hockey Tour
Over the Easter break, 21 students travelled to Barcelona for an exciting hockey tour, where they faced three highly regarded club sides that regularly compete in European competitions.
The tour began with two closely contested matches against Castelldefels and Barcelona Hockey Club. Despite strong performances, the home sides edged both fixtures, as Lancing worked hard to settle into the pace and intensity of international opposition.
By the final match against Atlètic Terrassa, the team had found their rhythm. In a thrilling encounter, Lancing secured a well-deserved 3–2 victory, showcasing their progress and determination.
It was a fitting end to a memorable tour, highlighting the team’s resilience, development, and collective effort throughout.
Sussex News
A big well done to all the students who represented Sussex County Hockey in their latest round of fixtures over the weekend. It’s fantastic to see more than 15 of our students, across both boys’ and girls’ teams and multiple age groups, continuing to fly the Lancing flag at county level.
A special mention goes to Chloe S, Sophia B, Grace H, Sophia W, Kitty H, Harriet B and Mika L, who are all part of the U18 squad. The team enjoyed a strong weekend, securing an impressive 1–0 victory against London North, followed by a hard-fought 2–2 draw with Kent.
The Sussex U18 girls now sit third in the County Championship table, having lost just one game all season. With only two fixtures remaining, they are just a few points behind league leaders London South and Oxford, setting up an exciting finish to the campaign.
Tennis
On Wednesday, the Boys’ 1st Team Tennis hosted Brighton College in the U18 National Glanville Cup. On paper, Brighton College were the higher‑ranked side, but the Lancing boys delivered a composed and highly professional performance, showcasing excellent singles and doubles tennis throughout.
Julian N started strongly in his singles match, playing some clinical tennis. Logan B showed great resilience, clawing back from a 5–2 deficit to push his opponent to a tightly contested 7–6, 8–6 tie‑break. Jacob T secured Lancing’s first win of the day with an impressive 6–4, 6–3 victory over Brighton’s No.2 player. Ben A then produced a standout performance against Brighton’s No.1 and county player, taking the match to three sets before narrowly losing out in the deciding tie‑break. Despite strong efforts in the doubles from both pairs, and with Jacob and Ben securing an additional win, Lancing eventually lost the tie 4–2 on rubbers.
The boys’ performance stands them in excellent stead for this weekend’s Independent Schools Sussex League tournament, where they will aim to retain the U16 Trophy and the U18 Plate. We also wish our U16 and U18 girls’ teams the very best of luck in their equivalent events.
Football
We are also very pleased to highlight the recent sporting success that has been a source of great pride for the whole College community. Our U16A boys’ team has enjoyed an exceptional season, reaching the final of the ESFA Schools’ Cup for the first time in recent College history.
Progressing through six rounds of a national competition that began with 107 schools is a remarkable achievement in itself.
The final will be held next Thursday 30 April at the Stoke City Stadium, and it promises to be a wonderful experience for all involved. This achievement reflects the hard work and commitment of the players over time, as well as the excellent guidance provided by our coaching staff.
The whole College looks forward to supporting the team as they prepare for this exciting occasion.
