Sporting Highlights – Friday 7 February 2025
Football
In the second block of the Lent Term the Senior football teams faced off against Cranleigh. The 1sts were victorious winning 5-2; goals from George H (2), Seb G, Alex B and a thunderbolt from Magnus D. The 2nds were also victorious with Beau F scoring a free-kick in a 1-0 win. The 3rds were disappointed with a 3-0 loss, but Mr Cooper’s 4th XI maintained their unbeaten run since 12 October coming back from 3-1 to draw 4-4 in a very entertaining match, with all four of the goals scored by player of the week Finlay W.
Swimming
On Tuesday afternoon Lancing hosted the final round of the Schools Super Swimming League, where we placed 3rd and qualified for the B final at K2 next month. Outstanding swims from Alessio M, Bethany K and Bianca S-A who won all of their events, but particular mention also to Anjie O, Bibi W and Maeve H for stepping up to form a strong Intermediate Girls team at incredibly short notice. Impressive attitudes and comradery from the whole team left an impression on visiting schools and made us feel very proud indeed
Badminton
Well done to Nam S who represented Sussex last weekend, winning all her singles and double matches against a strong Wilstshire side.
Hockey
On Tuesday the 2nd XI took on Lingfield at home. An emphatic 4-1 win for the 2nd XI. MVPs Shimon M and Joe M.
1st XI
The 1st XI put in a spirited performance away at Ardingly in what was a highly competitive fixture. Despite the 2-0 loss, the team showed great resilience. Standout performances came from Charlie F and Cal N, who were named MVPs for their contributions.
U15A
A determined effort from the U15A side saw them narrowly edged out 2-1 in a closely contested away fixture. Lancing displayed excellent teamwork, and their perseverance was rewarded with a fantastic team goal, expertly finished by Artem M. Thomas R and Francis R were named MVPs for their outstanding performances on the day.
U15B
Mr. Maru’s U15B team hosted Ardingly in a tight encounter where clear-cut chances were hard to come by for both sides. Despite a 2-0 defeat, Lancing remained competitive throughout and showed great discipline in their play. The MVP award was shared across the whole team, reflecting a commendable collective effort.
U14A
A thrilling performance from the U14A side saw them battle back from 1-0 down at halftime to take the lead in the second half with two well-taken goals. Ardingly managed to equalise in the dying seconds via a penalty corner, resulting in a 2-2 draw. Despite the late setback, it was a fantastic display of resilience and attacking intent from the Lancing boys. Seth H and Bertie F were named MVPs.
U14B
The U14B team put in a disciplined display to secure a well-earned 0-0 draw at home. Jack S and Alex G were the MVPs.
Hot off the press….. Netball
A phenomenal effort from our U16s on Thursday afternoon, who finished runners-up in the Plate competition at SISNA (Sussex Independent Schools Netball Association) after a brilliant late surge. After placing 4th in their group, they found their rhythm, securing impressive wins over Bede’s and Brighton Girls, before a nail-biting 8-6 loss to Hurst – the final goal coming on the whistle! At 5-5, they had chances to take the lead, but the icy conditions made shooting a challenge.
