A World of Opportunities as Lancing College Pupils Apply for University
Each year, Lancing College students anticipate university offers from top QS world ranked institutions.
This time of year is the culmination of much research, support, discussion and preparation carried out by students with the support of their own tutor, teacher, Head of Sixth Form and Housemaster/mistress. Last year, 64% of students secured places on QS Top 100-ranked courses, and 11% gained entry to a QS Top 10 institution.
Pupils begin considering their post-school pathways, including A Level options and Degree Apprenticeships, as early as the Fifth Form (Year 11). They are guided by a dedicated team of in-house experts, led by the Deputy Head Dr John Herbert, and supported by the Head of Sixth Form, Mr Tim Grant, and the Overseas University Coordinator, Mrs Helen Robinson.
Over the past five years, 40 Lancing pupils have pursued higher education overseas following their A Levels. Destinations have included prestigious colleges and universities in the USA, Australia, Europe, Hong Kong, Japan, and Canada.
This year, six Upper Sixth students (five of whom are pictured above) have applied to colleges in the United States, with four already receiving offers from California Lutheran University, Drexel University in Philadelphia, the University of Southern California, The Pratt Institute in New York, and NYU. One pupil has also earned a scholarship to the University of Chicago. With other offers still pending, there is much anticipation and excitement as pupils await further news. Other overseas applications this year include institutions in Switzerland and Canada.
Lancing College’s dedicated support system empowers pupils to explore their aspirations and achieve their ambitions, whether close to home or far and wide. For those applying overseas the College supports pupils through:
- Introductions to USA/other overseas applications in the Fifth and Sixth Form.
- Specialist guidance for course and college selection by experienced college counsellors.
- One-to-one support from tutors and other members of staff on application completion who have guided students to successful applications in the past.
- Guidance from subject and US college specialists on submitting work and providing tuition for interviews.
- Experience in assisting pupils to compete for and gain specialist scholarships including sports scholarships.
- Provision of an on-site SAT centre at the College.
- SAT guidance, preparation and support both in-house and in partnership with a specialist SAT preparation course.
- Relationships with agents who can provide yet further support if this is required.
From expert guidance to tailored opportunities, we ensure every pupil is well-prepared to succeed on their chosen path – wherever it may lead.
