U16A Boys Reach National ESFA Schools’ Cup Final
Lancing College’s U16A boys have enjoyed a truly exceptional season, culminating in a place in the final of the prestigious ESFA Schools’ Cup.
Having progressed through six rounds of a national competition that began with 107 schools back in September, the team has reached the final for the first time in recent College history.
The semi-final, played in Hereford against Kingstone High School, proved to be a dramatic and memorable occasion. In front of several hundred vocal home supporters, the atmosphere was intense from the outset. Lancing showed great composure to take an early lead through Francis R, before the hosts drew level just before half-time.
The second half brought even more excitement. Jude G restored Lancing’s lead from the penalty spot with a calm and confident finish, before Patrick C extended the advantage to 3–1 with a well-taken goal after breaking through the defence. Kingstone responded to make it 3–2, setting up a tense final period.
Under sustained pressure, Lancing demonstrated resilience and determination, with a crucial goal-line clearance from Elliot G preserving their lead in the closing moments. As the game entered its final stages, Patrick C produced a moment of brilliance, carrying the ball from deep inside his own half, beating multiple players and finishing superbly to secure a 4–2 victory. The final whistle sparked scenes of celebration, as players and staff marked a well-earned place in the national final.
The final, scheduled for May, will take place at the Bet365 Stadium, home of Stoke City. The opportunity to compete at such a venue will provide a memorable experience for all involved.
This achievement is a testament to the team’s hard work, development and commitment over the past two seasons, under the guidance of Head of Football Mr Benson and lead coach Dan Pedley.
The whole College community looks forward to supporting the team as they prepare for the final and wishes them every success as they aim to take the final step and become national champions.
