Pre Sixth Form Year 11 one-year GCSE course
Lancing is looking forward to welcoming its first cohort of students to it’s Pre- Sixth Form course in September. This one-year GCSE has proved very popular with applicants, with students from a range of countries looking to join Lancing for this immersive course, which combines the depth of pastoral care and breadth of co-curricular provision for which Lancing is renowned, with a tailored one-year programme with significant EAL support which enables students to be prepared for and to sit 6 or 7 GCSEs.
Those participating in this programme are fully integrated into the boarding life of the school; have an individual tutor and the care of a Housemaster/ Housemistress and participate in the full range of co-curricular activities on offer, from sport, to music to drama to service activities such as Scouts or the CCF or the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
Alongside this, they are prepared for First Language English and Second Language English GCSEs; they have bespoke classes in Biology, Chemistry and Physics, enabling them to sit the Dual Award GCSEs in these subjects after just one year; and they are likewise prepared for Maths GCSE.
Beyond this, they are supported towards a GCSE in their native language and are able to follow chosen options subjects such as Art, \photography, design and Technology and Computer Science. This puts in place a fully-immersive year of living and learning at Lancing in preparation for the Sixth Form courses to follow, and that degree of EAL support that ensures that they are fully able to access the curriculum upon entering the Sixth Form. It is an exciting stage, indeed.
