Sport Highlights – Lent Term
Sport Report
This term, the College has played over 130 competitive fixtures across badminton, basketball, football, hockey, netball, squash, tennis and swimming, as always, it has been a busy one!
And a successful one! Our boys’ senior basketball team went undefeated to Finals Day at Bede’s School, they didn’t manage to keep that record there, but put in a good fight! In football, our U16 boys have reached the final of the ESFA U16 Schools’ Cup, which will take place next term at Stoke City FC – an amazing opportunity for them to play at a professional stadium.
The girls’ Netball Club continues to flourish, highlighted by convincing victories for both the 1st and 2nd VII against Lingfield College.
Our U14 boys’ hockey team achieved an excellent result in the UKSA 7aside Hockey Tournament at Burgess Hill, securing silver medals after a strong round-robin competition. They finished as worthy runners-up, narrowly missing gold, with the final standings as follows:
- Sir Joseph Williamson’s Mathematical School
- Lancing College
- Bede’s School
- King Edward’s Witley
- Lingfield College
- Hoe Bridge School
- Reigate Grammar School
Although the swimming pool is currently out of action due to a much-needed refurbishment, our swimmers have continued to compete strongly in the Sussex Schools Swimming League, with the team aiming to finish within the top three this term.
Looking ahead, we anticipate a busy and exciting Summer Term, with the Diamond League athletics meets on the horizon, alongside a full programme of tennis and cricket fixtures.
We must also congratulate Nelly G on securing a full scholarship to Coastal Carolina Chanticleers women’s soccer at Coastal Carolina University, which she will begin this summer.
This is a fantastic achievement and recognition of her commitment, talent, and continued success in football at both school and international level. Nelly has already represented Wales women’s national under-17 football team, and we look forward to following her progress as she takes this exciting next step in her sporting journey.
