A Message from Director of Admissions
I hope that a very happy, restorative and refreshing Easter holiday was enjoyed and that the school is now ringing with the voices of children full of the joys of Spring and excited to be back with their friends and their teachers.
Lancing College is looking glorious: bluebells are out in abundance, the fields are host to new lambs and the peregrines are making a racket around the Chapel.
This sense of promise was richly fulfilled last term, as you’ll read in the following stories. The closing weeks of term saw two superb concerts (the Lent Concert and the Chamber Music Concert) both featuring a wealth of ensemble and solo performances, with original compositions by pupils as well as pupils taking up the conducting baton. There were also sporting triumphs, including for the mighty U16 boys’ football, who have made it to the final of the ESFA U16 Schools’ Cup, and some stirring victories for the girls’ Netball Club. The Brighton half-marathon was a gloriously Lancing occasion with many pupil and staff runners (including the Head Master) and a real sense of camaraderie.
Drama saw the pupil-written and directed Bancroft Plays and collaboration with the Library in the celebration of National Book Week and those in the Sixth Form have been seizing opportunities for extension and enrichment via Med Soc (which helps drive our extraordinary success in medical, veterinary and dental applications); the annual Travel Awards (and this year has seen a stellar set of proposals) and a superb crop of exciting University offers.
It was a delight to see the calibre of 13+ applicants for next September and to be able to award a grand total of 43 Scholarships, Exhibitions and Head Master’s Awards to 39 Year 8 children from across 14 different schools. Next year’s Third Form promises to be an excellent cohort. Thank you for encouraging those in Years 4 and above to visit Lancing on our Open Morning (7 June) – or to make an arrangement for a private visit.
With all best wishes for the term ahead,
Hilary Dugdale
