I hope you have enjoyed an excellent summer – although I am very conscious of just how busy a time this has been for you and of the year-round demands made upon you. It is a real pleasure to work with you.
This term is always such an exciting one in a school. It is the real powerhouse of the academic year and it brings with it the dynamism of a new community forming, new bonds being forged, new starts embraced. I know you will share the excitement that comes from a child you have worked closely with making their way to their new school or returning into the Sixth Form with a splendid clutch of GCSEs or starting to finalise their university options.
I hope that you enjoy the stories in the pages ahead. This summer has seen stellar A Level and GCSE results; Lancing students have gone on to take up their places at some of the best universities in the UK – and across the globe. Our Medical pathway; our success in Engineering and the Arts remain exciting strengths.
Dr Crawford is embarking on his second year as our Head Master and he extends a warm welcome. Elsewhere, in addition to the exciting sports development plans and investment announced last term, we look at the improvements taking place to the campus over the months ahead. From an Admissions perspective, we invite families to one of this term’s open mornings (3 October and 1 November), we look forward to our Sixth Form entrance and scholarship assessments in November and we give an insight into the various countries that we’ll be visiting and flying the Lancing flag in the term ahead. It will be lovely to meet up with you whilst ‘on the road’ and to further develop our close connections.
These are exciting times and at a time when the news seems full of rather gloomy stories about Independent Education, Lancing is thriving, blessed with inspiring teachers and a strong and cohesive community of pupils who embrace the superb academic and co-curricular opportunities offered.
