Lancing College pupils triumph in GCSE examinations
This year, Lancing College pupils have once again achieved outstanding results in their GCSE examinations, reflecting not only their hard work and determination, but also the commitment of their teachers and the strength of the wider Lancing community.
Lancing College Headline statistics:
- The average grade scored by Lancing College students remains a Grade 7, the old equivalent of an A grade.
- Nearly a fifth of all grades awarded this year were at Grade 9, the coveted A** equivalent.
- In a comparison with the old alphabetical system, 82% of grades were in the A*-B range, among the best results that students have achieved in the last 15 years.
- Last year, the government reported that students achieving seven Grade 9s or better found themselves in the top 1000 students in the country. This year, Lancing has produced four students in that bracket, a superb achievement.
- 18 students achieved the clean sweep of Grades 7-9.
These important examinations mark an important milestone on the journey to the Sixth Form, and this year’s excellent results will enable pupils to progress with confidence to study the A Levels of their choice.
Congratulating students, Dr Scott Crawford Head Master of Lancing College said:
“These results are a triumph, and I could not be prouder of every one of our pupils. Lancing is a genuinely scholarly community, one where learning doesn’t stop at the edge of the syllabus, it’s treated as a jumping-off point. A history lesson becomes a debate that runs on past the bell; a science practical sparks a question pupils go on to read about for themselves.
“That appetite for going further is, I believe, what underpins our exam success as much as any revision timetable. Brilliant results, richly deserved, and built on habits of mind that will serve these pupils long after the exams are forgotten.”
