Admissions Team’s Message – October 2024

Dear Parents and Guardians
It seems only a blink of an eye ago that we were at the start of the academic year and now half term is upon us. October has been a very busy month in the College and the past week alone has seen the judging of the House Film Festival by Sir Christopher Hampton (OL), a collection of ten 5-minute films devised, scripted, acted and produced by Lancing pupils last summer; the House Song Competition (the first element of January’s House Music Competition and an afternoon of highly-competitive and hotly-contested singing involving nearly every member of the school and a packed Great School); an inspirational talk for Black History Month from Benjy Kusi; the (Lancing Politics Society) US Presidential debate and a dinner for our budding medics and a range of parents and alumni working in wide range of medical fields.
As we look ahead to November’s school Musical (Sweeney Todd) we’ve enjoyed the’ Curtain Raiser’ of Them and Us in the first performance of many on the Lancing stage this year. The Chapel Choir is absolutely on song and sang superbly at St Paul’s earlier this month and are now practicing for November’s Remembrance Sunday service. We have the grand total from September’s Malawi Walk: the school raised nearly £16,000 for those individuals and charities we support in that country: this will change lives. From the classroom to the sports field to the debating chamber, every day feels richly busy. It has therefore been wonderful to welcome visiting families to the five open events held on Saturday morning so far this term, and to look forward to our final two of the term on Saturday 16 November.
I hope a lovely half term is enjoyed and that you also enjoy this newsletter and the flavour of Lancing life it contains.
Hilary Dugdale, Director of Admissions.
