U16A Boys Reach Historic ESFA Schools’ Cup Final at Stoke City Stadium
Our U16A boys’ team has enjoyed an exceptional season, reaching the final of the ESFA Schools’ Cup for the first time in recent College history.
The boys travelled to Stoke FC and got the opportunity to experience football at a proper stadium. They were joined the next day by a coach-load of College supporters, there in the stands to cheer them on. Proud to be Lancing, and to have got this far.
While the result did not fall Lancing’s way, the occasion itself marked a huge achievement for the group and one that will live long in the memory of everyone connected to the College. Reaching the final of a competition that began with 107 schools from across the country is a remarkable accomplishment and reflects the talent, character, and commitment shown by the squad throughout the season.
The team battled to earn their place, producing a number of impressive performances along the way against some of the strongest school sides in the country.
On the day itself, the occasion was made even more special by the fantastic support from fellow pupils, staff, and families who made the trip to Stoke to cheer the team on. From the warm-up right through to the final whistle, the Lancing support was loud, passionate, and a real credit to the College.
Although St Patrick’s College ultimately came out on top, Lancing competed with great determination throughout and never stopped fighting. The players represented the College brilliantly, showing resilience and togetherness on one of the biggest stages in school football.
The journey to the final has been a huge source of pride for the entire College community and is a reflection not only of the quality within the squad, but also the hard work that has gone in behind the scenes from staff and coaches over a long period of time.
While the result will naturally disappoint the players, they should look back on what they have achieved this season with enormous pride. To reach a national final is something very few school teams experience, and this group has created memories that will stay with them for years to come.
