Choir visit to Salisbury Cathedral
On Wednesday 4 March the Choir visited Salisbury Cathedral to sing evensong. In between rehearsals the Choir enjoyed exploring the cloisters and precincts in glorious spring sunshine.
A good number of parents and friends made the trip to hear the Choir sing music by Thomas Tomkins and Maurice Greene. The Choir, as ever, was on spectacular form and particular mention must be made of the many outstanding soloists: Tom C, Maria N, Henry W, Sophia W, Isaac H, Luca M and Beatrice CW. In the anthem an extended duet was sung by two more soloists, both former Salisbury Cathedral Choristers, Lili R and Izzy M. We were also delighted to welcome Mr Andrew Lumsden, a former Director of Music at Winchester Cathedral to play the organ for us.
On the way home the Choir enjoyed the traditional McDonald’s stop to round off a great day out!
“The choir trip to Salisbury was a lovely experience. The Cathedral was a wonderful venue to sing in and it was great to be able to sit outside and enjoy the sun during our rehearsal breaks.”

‘Choir trips are always highlights of the term, but going to Salisbury this year was fantastic, especially considering that I was returning to Salisbury as an ex-chorister. The evensong itself was beautiful and it was such a joy to sing 2nd soprano in the duet in Greene’s Lord Let Me Know Mine End. Of course, the mandatory McDonald’s detour on the way home was a lot of fun, second only to singing such a beautiful service in a 900 year old cathedral, which was my home before Lancing!
