Sporting Highlights – Friday 6 March 2026
Lots to celebrate this week!
Brighton Half Marathon
Huge congratulations to the Lancing team who braved the wind and rain last Sunday to run the Brighton Half Marathon.
Charlie D, Charlie G, Otti G, Seb G, Fintan H, Rory H, Jackob L, Theo S-F, Emily S and OL Oscar Belgeonne have collectively raised over £3,000 – and counting – for charities including Cancer Research UK, the Foundationers Campaign, and the Malawi campaign this summer.
A big thank you also to our staff team: Miss Andrew, Mr Nollett, Miss Shang, Miss Harlow, Ms Edwards, Mrs Milling from Lancing Prep Worthing – and not forgetting our amazing Head Master Scott Crawford – taking part in a Lancing first.
But perhaps the real heroes of the day were our volunteers. Led by Miss Airey and Ms Henry, they stood in truly horrendous conditions for over five hours supporting the runners: Lottie F, Nadia L, Grace W, Jo O, Yenna C, Ethan F, Imari D, Gloria R-C, Sam S, Bella T-H, Mercy M, Lili R and Tristan K.
A wonderful day to be TEAM LANCING 😊
Hockey
There were some excellent hockey results against Eastbourne College over the weekend. The 2nd XI fought hard for a well-deserved 0–0 draw in an exciting end-to-end game, with Logan B named MVP.
The U14A delivered an impressive 4–0 win, with two goals from Freddie B and one each from Dan H and Charlie H. Freddie B was named MVP. The U14B also secured a convincing 4–0 victory, with a remarkable performance from Thomas C, who scored a hat-trick after previously keeping a clean sheet in goal for the U14A.
The U15B showed great determination to earn a 2–0 win, with Dylan B scoring a superb goal in the first half before Adam G sealed the victory in the final minute. Dylan B was named MVP.
Netball
Last Saturday, Lancing Netball Club faced Christ’s Hospital and Eastbourne College in a competitive triangular fixture. The Senior teams produced excellent results against Eastbourne. The 1st VII secured a narrow 18–17 victory, the 2nd VII won 13–11, and the 3rd VII battled to an exciting 13–13 draw, demonstrating great resilience in closely contested matches.
There was also a standout performance from the U14A team, who recorded an impressive 19–8 win against Christ’s Hospital.
MVP awards go to Lily S, Emily M, Kitty H, Kaylee B, Tilly L, Poppy G, Grace W, Phoebe H, Esther C, Mollie T, Purdey M, Unaysah K, Phoebe B, Maia B and Lexi P.
Football
It was another strong weekend for Lancing football. The boys’ 1st and 2nd XI both secured 4–1 victories over Westminster. Adnan L was named man of the match for the 1st XI, providing three assists, while Connor H, Umar M, Seth V and Austin J shared the goals. The 3rd XI also recorded a 4–1 win, while the 4th XI played out a closely contested 1–1 draw.
The girls’ 1st XI travelled to Charterhouse for a national sevens tournament. After progressing through the group stages, they reached the Bowl Final with victories over Marlborough and Wellington before narrowly losing in sudden death. Congratulations to Stella C, Evie M, Lila D, Harriet B, Romily T J, Molly B, Lily T, Honor C and Paris U on a fantastic performance.
A special mention also to the U16 boys’ team, who travel to Hereford next Thursday for the ESFA National Cup semi-final, having reached the final four out of 107 teams.
Basketball
The Senior boys’ basketball team produced an outstanding performance in their final league game, defeating Christ’s Hospital 94–55. It was an excellent team display, played with energy and discipline throughout. A special mention goes to Joshi L, who impressed with his Senior debut as a Third Former, scoring an excellent 21 points. The win means Lancing finish top of the group heading into Finals Day next Thursday.
Swimming
Lancing swimmers have just completed the Sussex Long Course Championships, winning 6 gold, 5 silver and 8 bronze medals despite our pool being out of action for refurbishment. Congratulations to all involved, and best of luck as the team prepares for the Schools’ Super Swimming League finals later this month.
