Fifth Form Careers Fair – a day that can change what you think about the future
This year’s Fifth Form Careers Fair demonstrated the importance of continuing to enable students to reflect and explore ideas as they navigate future career options. At this stage, many students have started to have some initial ideas of what they might like to do. The Careers Fair is a wide range of workshops led by experts where students can hear more about different professions, there are plenty of opportunities for questions and this year speakers also shared how AI was impacting their area of work and employment opportunities.
Before the Fair, students had completed their personal Morrisby Profile, a series of assessments and questionnaires that delivers personalised guidance in the form of a detailed report. Students then received a one-to-one coaching session with a specialist independent careers advisor. Armed with this feedback and in consultation with parents, friends and tutors, students chose four sessions to attend.
Our expert speakers are largely from the amazing community of OLs and parents, their continued willingness to be part of our Careers programme is really valuable in its ongoing success and development.
Hear more about the day in our reel
“There was a real buzz today as students discovered, explored and were inspired by our speakers. Days like this in the company of experts that we can bring together can really shape paths for the future and that is an exciting prospect. The more that we can facilitate this, together with building a real understanding of the world of work and strong employability skills, the better equipped Lancing pupils will be when they leave.”
Diana Cree, Executive Director External Relations
This year, the My Future Programme was a finalist in the Student Careers category at the Independent School Awards and we continue to deliver leadership and innovation in this area.
Feedback from pupils about what they took away from the day included:
- You can study almost anything and still turn it into becoming a lawyer
- I learned a lot more about degree apprenticeships as an alternative to traditional university/college
- How to plan my future
- What AI will impact, differences in law careers, were to go for work experience
- I learnt that lots of skills are very transferable between fields and different jobs.
- Most told me to do what I enjoy, and I didn’t expect it to be so informative and helpful
- I learnt about more careers in finance that I was unaware about, and also got a taste for what a profession in medicine would be like, which was very interesting
