Heads of School 2024-2025

Following the commissioning of the 2024-2025 Prefects on Sunday 15 September, we are delighted to announce our new Heads of School for 2024/2025.

Congratulations to Paddy J (Saints' House), Nerea KM (Sankey's House), Fin S (Second’s House) and Sofiia S (Handford House). They will be leading the Prefect team and supporting the College staff in the smooth running of the school.

Head Master, Mr Dominic Oliver comments, ‘I’m looking forward to working with this cracking quartet who, as Heads of School for this year, will not only be ambassadors for the school and first amongst equals in the Prefect body, but will be true leaders of the student community.’

The four students commented on their new role:

Paddy J - Studying Maths, Further Maths and Computer Science

'I’m incredibly proud to serve as one of the Heads of School this year. It doesn’t seem that long ago I was in third form just starting at the college, and now I’m in my final year applying to universities and appreciating every ‘last time’ school event. It is a true pleasure to be given this opportunity. This first term has been an exciting journey of new responsibilities and chances to contribute to the school community which I am looking forward to continuing in the year ahead.'

Nerea KM – Studying History, Spanish and Maths with an EPQ

‘As a Head of School, life at Lancing has become more dynamic. I'm presented with new challenges and involved in discussions that were previously unknown to me.

Working with my fellow Heads of School and Prefects, we make up the team endorsing the student voice, and our voices are heard - we do make a difference. I have loved my new position so far as I enjoy being surrounded by friends with different hobbies and interests, making our weekly meetings engaging as we discuss all aspects of Lancing and express our opinions openly as advocates for all pupils.

I was very happy to hear the announcement of the four Heads of School; whilst I was proud of myself for reaching this position, I knew that my other Heads of School and I would make a great team and I was excited to spend this final year at Lancing working with such passionate, like-minded people.’

Sofiia S – Studying Politics, Maths and German

‘Being appointed as one of the Heads of School, I consider it an appreciable opportunity to enforce my leadership, interpersonal, and time-management skills. Yet it has only been less than half a term upholding this position, the role has highlighted to me the fruitfulness of the College life, and the balance between academic, co-curricular, social lives that the school so precariously fosters.

What inspires me greatly is the new people I meet and the numerous friendships I make throughout all year groups at the school thanks to this position - students feel the freedom to approach us - which, for me, provides invaluable insights into the life of our community. I noticed that younger students do, indeed, look up to the team of our talented Prefects and the resourceful Heads of School, which wouldn't make it an exaggeration if I said that it is a deeply appreciated privilege to have taken on this role.’

Fin S – Studying Maths, Biology, Psychology and Business

‘The first half of term has been really enjoyable and the added responsibility of being one of the Heads of school has brought the thrills and challenges of leadership.

I was delighted to be given this position of responsibility, and I hope that the months to follow will be as good as the first month has been. The beginning of term has also further developed my interest into my A level subjects of Maths, Biology, Psychology and Business which is encouraging for future studies.’
