Inside the Medics Dinner 2025
The Lancing College Medical Society (MedSoc) continues to play a vital role in inspiring and supporting pupils interested in careers in medicine, veterinary science, and dentistry. Through a range of talks, workshops, and mentoring opportunities, MedSoc helps students develop their understanding of healthcare, prepare for university applications, and build connections with professionals working across these demanding yet rewarding fields.
This years’ Medics Dinner, held on 14 October 2025, was a truly memorable evening, bringing together our aspiring medical, veterinary, and dentistry students from both Lower and Upper Sixth with professionals from their chosen fields. Over a shared meal, students had the invaluable opportunity to network, gain insights into their future careers, and even arrange work experience placements.
The evening was rich with conversation, ranging from personal stories about life in the NHS to practical advice on preparing for interviews. Students also heard about cutting-edge medical research from leading scientists, offering a glimpse into the future of healthcare.
The highlight of the evening was a captivating talk by OL Professor Robin Shattock (Head’s 1977-1981), who shared his groundbreaking work on developing a COVID-19 vaccine and his ongoing research into mRNA-based vaccines for HIV. He also provided a fascinating overview of the history of vaccinations, leaving students inspired and informed.
Professor Robin’s talk expanded fascinatingly on what many of us have learnt in our science classrooms, while giving us a taste of what the field of medical study and research entails. The evening was a wonderful opportunity for all of MedSoc to come together and celebrate, from the Upper Sixth, who were marking their UCAS submissions, to the Lower Sixth, just beginning their medical journeys. The dinner was another great example of the importance and support given to those pursuing healthcare studies at Lancing.

It was an evening that not only celebrated scientific achievement but also reaffirmed Lancing’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of medical innovators.
