Lancing College Welcomes Dr Scott Crawford as New Head Master
Lancing College is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Scott Crawford as Head Master. Scott officially began his post at the start of the term this week, following a summer spent at the College meeting with faculty and pupils, attending Open Events to meet prospective families, attending our Advance Programme Celebration, and supporting the Dorset House merger, all whilst beginning to shape his vision for the months and years ahead.
Throughout the opening days of term, Dr Crawford has been warmly greeting both new and returning pupils upon their arrival to the College, alongside the Prefects of 2025–2026 and Deputy Head, Ms Emma-Kate Henry. He has met with governors and staff, celebrated and communicated our GCSE successes, and presented gowns and name badges to our new 2025-2026 Prefects. He has also joined staff inductions and INSET sessions, and met with attendees of our ever-successful EYLA Summer Camp.
Dr Crawford joins Lancing from Magdalen College School, Oxford, where he served as Deputy Head from 2018-2025. Prior to this, he spent nine years at Highgate School, undertaking a range of senior responsibilities including Housemaster, Head of Biology, and Head of Science. He holds a PhD in Biology from the University of York and a BA in Biological Sciences from St Peter’s College, Oxford, and is also a trained Team Inspector with the Independent Schools Inspectorate as well as a serving school governor.

Finding a new Head Master to follow the outstanding 11 year record of Dominic Oliver was never going to be an easy task. Scott was the outstanding candidate from an extremely strong field of applicants and brings with him an excellent academic core, wide cross institution leadership experience and expertise in developing partnerships. Governors were impressed by his vision for the next phase of development for the College.
Mr Martin Slumbers, Chair of Governors of Lancing College
With a strong background in both academic excellence and pastoral leadership, Dr Crawford brings a wealth of experience to Lancing. His vision for the College is rooted in fostering an environment where pupils can flourish both inside and outside the classroom, supported by a dedicated faculty and a vibrant school community.
