Introducing our 2026/2027 Heads of School
Our Heads of School play an important role in shaping the life of our community. They are ambitious yet grounded, kind yet determined, and committed to making a positive difference to those around them. They are chosen not only for their achievements, but for the character, leadership and example they bring to school life.
This year, we are delighted to introduce Ciara H, Amelie K-M, Shimon M and Joshua O, four exceptional pupils who will represent and lead our community throughout the year.
Ciara
Ciara has been part of the Lancing community since Reception, having joined Lancing Prep Hove before moving to the College in the Third Form. She has lived on site since she was four and is now a member of Handford House, enjoying the boarding environment and the sense of community that comes with being around school so much.
She studies English, Art and French at A Level and plans to apply to study English at university. Her interests have always centred around literature and the arts, with reading and painting among her favourite ways to spend her time. She has spent time learning new languages which has challenged her and offered a different perspective, much like reading does.
Some of Ciara’s favourite memories of Lancing are wonderfully simple: riding her bike around Upper Quad with her sister during term breaks, often with the family dog in tow, and her first English lessons in Great School, where the voices of teachers echoing around the vast space gave her a real sense of the scale and character of the College.
She particularly enjoys Scouts in the summer, when afternoons spent exploring the grounds can end around the outdoor amphitheatre with a fire pit, singing and games. For Ciara, it is a chance to spend time with friends, unwind and appreciate the setting she has grown up around.
Being chosen as a Head of School was a moment she found difficult to believe at first. As she puts it:
“When I was chosen, at first I didn’t believe it. On the walk down to the HMO I could only repeat to myself, ‘don’t make assumptions’, to contain my excitement at the idea. Recognition like that is very powerful. I felt seen and appreciated. I can only hope to return the favour.”
Amelie
Amelie has been part of the Lancing community since joining Lancing Prep Worthing in Year 1, and is the tenth member of her family to attend the College. Having grown up within the Lancing community, she has embraced an extraordinary range of opportunities and activities throughout her time at the College.
She studies Biology, Psychology and Spanish at A Level and hopes to go on to study Biotechnology at university. Alongside her academic studies, Amelie is involved in almost every aspect of school life. She is a member of A Cappella Club and the school musicals, taking on the role of an Oompa Loompa this year, as well as captain of the second team hockey, a Diversity and Inclusion Representative, Academic Scholar, Peer Supporter, House Music Representative and Senior Scout. She also takes part in community outreach.
For Amelie, one of the greatest strengths of Lancing is the sheer range of opportunities available to pupils and advises anyone joining the College to get involved, try something new and never be afraid to step outside your comfort zone. You never know where you might discover a new passion.
Her own favourite Lancing memory is the annual House Music Competition, an event she loves for its atmosphere, sense of fun and ability to bring the whole College together. Seeing pupils dressing up, singing and performing together has made it one of her core memories of Lancing.
Being appointed Head of School is particularly meaningful for Amelie after such a long connection with the College. She hopes to use the role to ensure every pupil feels seen, included and supported, and to give others the same sense of belonging that she has experienced throughout her time at Lancing.
“Lancing has shaped me into the person I am today, and I feel so grateful to be honoured with the title of Head Girl. When I was asked, I felt so proud and thankful that my efforts throughout my time at Lancing were being recognised and valued. It feels so incredible to be able to represent a community that has been a huge part of my life.”
Shimon
Shimon moved to England from the United States in 2019 and joined Lancing in the Third Form as a full boarder in School House. He has since made the most of the breadth of opportunities available at the College, alongside an exceptional academic journey as an Academic Scholar.
Having completed Mathematics with an A* in the Lower Sixth, Shimon is now studying Further Mathematics, Physics and Economics. His academic interests extend well beyond the A Level curriculum. He has taken part in Chemistry and Physics Olympiads and led a team in the CanSat engineering competition, teaching himself coding and circuit design to help build and launch a working model satellite the size of a drinks can.
His curiosity also extends to the world beyond science and mathematics. After spending weeks researching US foreign policy in the Middle East, Shimon interviewed former US Secretary of State John Kerry and presented his work at Roedean School’s annual Scholars’ Symposium. He is currently developing the research into an essay.
Alongside his studies, Shimon is a Peer Supporter and has tutored Year 11 pupils in Mathematics and Physics at Sir Robert Woodard Academy. He is also an NCO in the CCF, leading a section of cadets from Lancing and Roedean, and has helped organise events on Founder’s Day which raised money for three charities. He has represented the College in 1st XI hockey and tennis, and enjoys long-distance running, going to the gym, playing guitar and scuba diving.
He hopes to study Economics and Engineering in the United States, with Stanford, Harvard, Berkeley and Deep Springs among the universities he is considering.
For Shimon, becoming Head of School is an opportunity to give something back to the community that has helped shape him.
“If my time as Head of School achieves just one thing, I hope it’s inspiring others to grab hold of all the incredible opportunities this school has to offer.”
Joshua
Joshua joined Lancing in the Third Form as a full boarder in Teme House, having previously attended a day school in Nigeria. Moving to a boarding school in England was a significant change, but Joshua quickly settled into life at Lancing and has embraced the opportunities that have come with it.
He studies Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry and hopes to pursue Medicine at university, with St Andrews among his aspirations. His academic interests also take him beyond the A Level curriculum, with Joshua challenging himself through Chemistry and Physics Olympiads.
Athletics has been a particular passion throughout his time at Lancing. He represented Sussex in the Fourth Form and continues to enjoy being involved in sport alongside his academic studies. He is also an NCO in the CCF, helping to train and teach new cadets from Lancing and Roedean and taking part in activities and overnight exercises.
Joshua is a Peer Supporter and has also served as a Charity Representative, working with pupils and staff to organise activities and raise money for various causes. His experience in debating has been another important part of his Lancing journey, having reached the House Debate Final and taken part in Model United Nations. These experiences have helped him develop his confidence and communication skills, as well as learning how to listen and work effectively with others in challenging situations.
For Joshua, one of the things that makes Lancing special is the freedom pupils have to shape their own experience and make the most of the opportunities around them.
“Being chosen as Head of School is a dream come true, and I feel incredibly honoured that the Lancing community has placed this much trust in me. I aim to use this opportunity to contribute to making Lancing an even stronger and closer community. I hope that, when my time as Head of School comes to an end, I can look back knowing that I made a lasting and positive impact on the school.”
“What I value most about Lancing is how individual you can make your experience. You are never just another student. With the support and opportunities the school provides, you have the chance to make each day your own and create your own version of Lancing.”
Leading the way
Ciara, Amelie, Shimon and Joshua each bring their own experiences, interests and ambitions to the role of Head of School, but share a strong commitment to the community that has played such an important part in their lives.
They hope to use their positions to support those around them, make the most of the opportunities at Lancing and ensure every pupil feels included, valued and able to find their own place within the community. For them, leadership is about more than the title. It is about setting an example, giving something back and helping to make Lancing an even stronger community.
