Life in the Sixth Form
Fifth Form parents explore the opportunities and experiences that lie ahead at Lancing.
On Saturday 26 September, Fifth Form parents joined us for Life in the Sixth Form, an opportunity to discover what the next stage of their child’s Lancing journey has to offer.
The morning began with insights from current Sixth Form pupils, who shared their experiences of life beyond Fifth Form, from academic study and House life to leadership opportunities, sport and co-curricular activities.
Head Master Dr Scott Crawford then outlined his vision for the Sixth Form experience at Lancing, highlighting the balance of continuity and new beginnings, greater independence, academic curiosity and the opportunities for pupils to shape their own futures.
Head of Sixth Form Chris Pownall explored the academic pathways available, including A Levels and the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), and the individual guidance pupils receive in choosing a programme of study that reflects their strengths, interests and ambitions.
Parents also heard about the breadth of opportunities beyond the classroom. The Lancing Diploma, Super Curriculum, enrichment activities and careers provision all contribute to a Sixth Form experience designed to develop confidence, independence and transferable skills. The presentation also explored the support available for higher education applications, including university choices in the UK and overseas, and specialist guidance for competitive courses.
The morning concluded in the Sixth Form Centre, where parents enjoyed refreshments and the opportunity to speak informally with senior staff, Heads of Faculty and other key members of the Sixth Form team.
For Fifth Form families, the event offered a valuable insight into the academic choices, personal development opportunities and individual support that will shape their child’s final two years at Lancing and prepare them for life beyond school.
