Sporting Highlights – Friday 9 October 2026
Cross-Country
Last Saturday a team of girls and boys and across all year groups travelled to compete in the Charterhouse Cross-Country Cup.
The standout result came from our Senior Girls, who won the team competition. Grace H finished an excellent 2nd, with Hikari S close behind in 3rd, while Asa S finished 5th and Marina C R in 12th. Together, their performances secured 1st place overall for the Senior Girls’ team.
Our boys also competed strongly in a very competitive field, and throughout the day there was fantastic support across the whole squad, with runners staying at the finish to encourage their teammates home.
Congratulations to everyone who represented Lancing.
Football
In an extremely competitive block with Winchester, Lancing’s footballers recorded 4 wins, 4 losses and 3 draws in what proved to be an exceptionally even contest.
The 1st XI extended their winning run to six matches, coming from behind to secure a 2–1 victory thanks to two late goals from Sotaro N and Seth V.
The U16As delivered a strong 3–1 win, driven by a man‑of‑the‑match performance from Hugo V D P in goal and a brace from Ollie R, who’s stunning 30‑yard volley is already a goal‑of‑the‑season contender.
The 4th XI were also in fine form, winning 6–2, with braces from Joe M and Alex G helping the team to a convincing victory and under the expert guidance of caretaker manager Mr Chappell, the U14B team gave an impressive display winning 3–0.
The 2nd XI, U16Bs, and U15As all battled hard to earn well‑deserved draws, rounding off a competitive and encouraging weekend of football.
Hockey
It has been an outstanding week for girls’ hockey at Lancing College.
Both Senior teams enjoyed convincing victories over Roedean, with the 2nd XI securing an emphatic 6–0 win, including a hat-trick from Izzy C, while the 1st XI claimed a comfortable 2–0 victory, courtesy of two goals from Ava U.
The 1st XI then continued their excellent form at the Regional Championships at Christ’s Hospital on Tuesday, winning all three matches to secure qualification for the South East of England Finals.
Victories over Christ’s Hospital (3–1), Mayfield (2–0) and BHASVIC (3–2) demonstrated the squad’s determination and resilience, particularly in their final match, where they fought back from 2–1 down to secure qualification.
Special congratulations go to Sophie F, Izzy C and Olivia M, who all scored their first goals for the 1st XI, with Izzy scoring twice on her first-team debut.
A tremendous team achievement and thoroughly deserved recognition for the entire squad. We wish them every success in the South East Finals.
Badminton
Lancing’s girls’ badminton team secured an excellent 8–4 victory over Roedean in a highly competitive fixture.
There were several closely fought games, but Lancing showed great composure and teamwork, particularly in the doubles, to take control of the match and secure a well-deserved win.
The fixture was played in a fantastic spirit, with excellent sportsmanship from both sides.
Well done to all the girls on a superb team performance!
