Sporting Highlights – Friday 2 October 2026
Football News
Following their National Cup success on Tuesday, the 1st XI extended their impressive winning streak to five matches, securing another clean sheet in the process. A stunning strike from George O-H opened the scoring before Jack B capped off a comfortable 2-0 victory. The 2nd XI also enjoyed a successful afternoon, with Gibrille B’s brace sealing a 2-0 win.
The U15A and U16B sides both demonstrated great character, coming from behind to earn hard-fought 2-2 draws. Meanwhile, the U14A and U14B teams were narrowly defeated by a single goal in two closely contested encounters. The U14s did, however, respond superbly to their weekend disappointment with an excellent District League victory. Goals from Charlie H B, Osel E and Harry W helped secure an emphatic 4-0 win.
The girls were also in cup action as the U15s travelled to Ardingly for their ISFA Cup fixture. Despite goals from Greta McA, Gloria R C and Skye K Lancing were defeated in what was a highly entertaining match; nevertheless a good performance from the team overall in the first match of the season.
Hockey
Saturday saw Lancing take on Portsmouth Grammar School and Roedean. Notable results from the weekend:
The 1st XI produced arguably their best performance of the season in a thrilling victory 2-1 at home, goals scored by Ava U and Molly G. MVP’s go to Mika L, Ava U and a special MVP mention to Fourth Former Cecily S on her 1st XI debut.
The 2nd XI also enjoyed an excellent 2-0 win away at Portsmouth with goals from Lucy M and Molly A. MVP goes to co-captain Evie M.
The 3rd XI put in a strong performance against Roedean in a closely contested match that could have gone either way. MVPs were Esther C and Emilia M, with special mention to Flo D for stepping up and going in goal, pulling off some brilliant saves.
A special mention also goes to the U15A team, who on the Friday 18 September travelled to Bedes for a 7-a-side tournament. The students performed brilliantly on the day and won the tournament claiming the gold medal and the Hockey Club’s first silverware of the season. The Lancing girls won every fixture and conceded just the one goal all tournament. Results from the tournament include:
- 3-1 win vs Bede’s
- 2-0 win vs Battle Abbey
- 4-0 win vs Mayfield
- 2-0 win vs Claremont
